I generally don't talk about internet celebrities and their gaffs, but I felt this one interesting enough to point out:

I do not believe Mr. Krahulik is a bigot, just ignorant. When someone says something as monumentally stupid as "[only] women have vaginas and [only] men have a penis" they're either ignorant or transphobic. There's no real room for anything else. Mr. Krahulik does not really strike me as transphobic so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and just assume he's ignorant.

People did jump on him with righteous fury a little too quickly before he made that statement, but perhaps it turned out okay since it brought the issue to light. More people need to know that what you have between your legs is not necessarily indicative of your gender. A game about female masturbation can certainly only include vaginas; I'm on Mr. Krahulik's side there. But other women exist.


Also, I should note that that post is probably one of the closest to an apology the guy has ever given. Aside from that one time he plagiarized someone's drawing of rocks, I don't think he's ever made such a... regretful? post.

That was a funny one. It's really astounding just how quickly tumblr brought out the threats, then also the speed of the resulting reaction. It quickly got overshadowed by Jason though. By the way, who came up with all these naming things?
Because transphobia literally means the fear of change. Homophobia would mean fear of the same. Both don't really allude to sexuality or even prejudice. Those definitions really need better words for them... Like sexism? Certainly would make more sense.

Eh, still seems clunky and ill-named. Something like Saphicodium sounds nicer. Stemming from a single word as opposed to from a compound noun butchering an abstract noun.

Yeah, but most people aren't very knowledgable about the words they use and their roots, mostly people think of homo as being short for homosexual, and that phobia is fear, so homophobia meaning "being afraid of homosexuals" makes sense for them.

My fiancee might yell at me for saying this, but I think colloquial usage is more important than anything. If people take word x to mean y, then that's what it means, roots and such be damned.

You can certainly criticize words for potential ambiguity, but their meaning is still defined by how people use them, not by anything else.

Some pretty bad stuff happened

From what I can tell, It all seems like the community fucked with a very important topic at PAX, and when he tried to give everyone an equal voice that shit blew up in his face. The bad part is when he lost his temper and started insulting people, but when you have the majority of the internet screaming at your ear right after you wake up, that is bound to happen.

I don't know why the community jumped on his ass so quickly, and why nobody tried to solve this issue calmly, instead of sending him an e-mail three minutes after the panel was announced calling him "cis male garbage".

What i'm trying (and most likely failing) to say is that incidents like this wouldn't happen if people could communicate each other like normal human beings. When you hear somebody prefers coke over pepsi you don't bring out the death threats and nasty comments. It doesn't do much for the message of soda equality when you start flaming somebody who prefers one soda over another.

Oh yeah, I definitely agree that people brought out the righteous fury against him way too quickly. He did make a gaff relating to trans folk though, which is what I was specifically talking about.

I offer no defense for those who were yelling personal insults at him for what apparently was an evil panel at PAX he had no idea existed.
