For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

Why yes Mr. Libertarian, not going to war with the world is a good recipe for success.

Well yeah, most Libertarians are somewhat isolationist and anti-war (other than defensive). Not out of pacifism or any goodwill towards the larger human race but just because it wastes money and people.

Why can't Libertarians move to Somalia and leave us alone? Or Libya, Somalia's getting better. I'm sure they can sympathize with all the militias ready TO TAKE BACK THEIR GOVERNMENT.

But they generally believe in taking back power through the sheer blinding brilliance of their ideas. (Presumably, they shoot everyone important while they're blinded.)

Or in pulling a John Galt and removing themselves from the world, waiting for it to collapse and beg them to come back.
I'd link that Bob the Angry Flower strip, but hell...you've all seen it before.

Who is the arrogant 'us' to whom you are referring? Frankly it is tiring to see you posting like your opinion is the only one shared by people of intelligence. Kindly get over yourself, Misko, and I say that as a friend.

Also, I'm fairly certain this was a joke, but that first sentence just irked the everloving fuck out of me.

Sweden and the Netherlands were also the homeland of the badass pagan vikings. If anyone was so dumb as to get into a war with the Netherlands or Sweden, they could just call up their Viking ancestors with some mead and a righteous blast from the ceremonial horn and sic 'em on the enemy.

No one wants to fight undead Vikings before Ragnarok! That just defeats the point of Ragnarok, and then it'd just be Ragnaroll, and be all boring.

I'd certainly want to attend a Ragnarok-and-roll.

It's obviously the royal us; misko is Britney Spears.

Hey, anything that provides impetus for getting rid of the electoral college is at least partially a good thing.
Frankly, considering how it's favoring Dems right now, I disagree. If the lines have moved further to the right come 2016, I'll reconsider. Otherwise, I think I'd keep as is.
It's an anachronism. Just because it happens to favor the less-bad politicians at the moment doesn't mean it's a good thing. That aside, I'm not sure how it has helped the Democrats? Obama won the popular vote, as did Gore.

The electoral college isn't the problems with those things. It's the fact that most states use a first past the post system to divide their electors. In fact, replacing the entire system with a popular vote will just serve to enforce the two party system. Instead, scrapping the FPTP voting insides states and allowing the electors of one party to aid another(on a party basis, not on a per person basis) might be the easiest way to discourage this. This will encourage the influence of Independent parties, as they can collaborate and form a presidential coalition.

However, it might also cause a system where the minority rules. (For example: DEm: 49% of seats, R: 49% Ind:2%) The indepents get to decide who becomes Presidents, and therefore can ask for absurd demands, and have far more power than the amount of votes should give them.

So the electoral college system isn't the problem, it's the electoral college system that's the problem? On a similar note, when did I suggest using simple-majority popular vote to determine the outcome of the election? The easiest change would probably be to switch it to a proportional system, where electors are distributed based on the proportion of votes cast for each candidate or party. Granted, that wouldn't kill the two-party system, but nothing short of a complete overhaul and restructuring of the legislative branch to a parliamentary system would.

I dunno, the dutch are pretty badass. I mean, they basically went "we need more land, fuck it, we'll take it back FROM THE SEA ITSELF!"

That doesn't make them vikings. At all. Besides, the vikings liked the water.

It sinecerly bothers me that so many people take my jokes seriously. What do I need to make it more obvious? Is all caps not enough? I mean I know it's the internet, but come on. Are you seriously accusing me of suggesting we deport libertarians? Seriously? Seriously? Why would a grammer mistake cause you to inult me so? Or do you all just assume Misko is shallow, arrogant, and stupid?  Fuck that, I'm offended that you think so very little of me.

I need to stop making jokes, people take them seriously. Fine then, I'll stop. No more oppurtunities to not have a sense of humor, I'm done.
