Another thing that really disappointed me about the movie was there was no final 1 on 1 battle between Bond and Silva.
Part of Silva's plan was very very similar to the Joker's plan.
The way Bond survives getting shot and falling down a waterfall is never explained.
Q's gadgets kinda sucked.
I was kinda hoping Ola Rapace would get a speaking part but meh.

1) Yeah.

2) Also, he wasn't ripped apart by the depleted-uranium(!) bullet, which wasn't explained, only lamp-shaded as a virtual miracle.  And technically a fall onto water from that height is like a fall onto concrete. BUT while I can't explain the bullet (which wasn't Eve's, who know where that went)...
If the water was turbulent (can't remember) it might be significantly softened water (like they do in diving competitions, and for cliff jumping into surf), and yet deep enough to prevent hitting the bed.  I'm then allowed to assume that a plunge into cold water is not in itself fatal and sends the already-shocked body into a lower-state of metabolism, and (perhaps as the 'fantasy' title-sequence starts off with) he's then drifting in the current and before he actually drowns gets rescued by some fair lady who he then wanders off to whatever tropical island he 'retires' to.  With.

Or he just washes up onto a stream-bank beach in a good enough recovery position to allow him to splutter out any liquid in his lungs, gains consciousness, assesses the situation and then uses whatever backup 'pipeline' out of the country he's doubtless had memorised and goes and disappears.  (Big dereliction of duty there, though.  I'd prefer to imagine that he was only half sensible when actively rescued by whoever it is.  Normally Bond is expected to go off in pursuit of 'lost' causes, regardless, but this is a rebooted Bond.  And thought he'd been shot by Eve as a result of Emma's orders, of course.)

3) Q's "gadget count" (at least what he gives out to 'agents'[1]) looked to me to be a deliberate part of the reboot.  In that respect, the car was quite obvious a relic in several senses.  No umbrellas with the power to shoot down satellites, etc, etc, right?

4) Maybe, maybe not.  But he's quite obviously the kind of duty-bound henchman that doesn't blab, even at the end.

[1] Bond, of course, is not an 'Agent'.  He's an 'Officer', if anything.  To be properly nitpicky about just about the whole oevre of films (I think).  (Though I'm not so sure about the books as originally written, because I read those long before I knew enough to be nit-picky about this issue.)

Depleted Uranium to my knowledge would just punch right through you. The "Ripped appart" comes from bullet fragmentation that a depleted Uranium bullet would not do unless designed to do so.

The point of these bullets is their ability to penetrate armor. They however do less internal damage then conventional bullets.

I see what you mean.   Might have been fooled by the reversal of film-physics where normally it's not portrayed as dangerous as it would actually be (c.f. the old water thing, without my suggested caveat to that), but this time they over-emphasise it.  Then I thought about if it was tumbling , but that would just make it more dangerous (extremities ripped off), but where it hit would only be more fatal, not necessarily more dismembering.

(Not spoiler-tagging, because it's increasingly hard to casually read, but leaving massive amounts of context out of it instead.)

He's a commander in the Royal Navy. So yes, very much so an officer. They don't really explain that side of his duties much. I'm not sure any of the more recent Bond films have him shown as a person in command of anything really.

Not seen the film yet so maybe they got this right but it should at least leave a larger nastier hole on it's way out than on it's way in. This also applies to bullets not made to collapse, although this would cause the same to a greater degree.

Indeed.  But more than that, by a number of definitions (though not all, probably muddied by such populist terminology) an "Agent" (a secret one, more so) is "one of 'them' that is working for 'us'"  Or even someone of a third party acting on our behalf.  Bond is definitely "one of ours, working for us".  An officer in the field (from our perspective), or a spy or another related pejorative (from their perspective).  He may even be an "illegal", a person going under a false identity for the territory they are in on behalf of their home nation, except for the whole announcing his "name, real name" all the time.

The point I was making was that he technically wasn't.  Although after so much influencing of language by (possibly) his own example of misnaming it's now become tautologically factual in the same way as <shudder/> "decimate" has been popularly misappropriated.

Looking things up, it looks like US legal terms differ from UK ones that should govern 007's various nomenclatures, though.  And I forgot to include the word "operative" as an appropriate synonym under various circumstances.

Anyway, I'm being over-nitpicky, even for a nitpicking thread.  Move along.  Nothing to see here.
