Any Android Games?
« on: July 13, 2012, 04:06:47 pm »

Hey, I love dwarf fortress, one of my favorite games, but I want to bring it to my mobile device. I'm aware that there are no mobile versions of this game, but are there games at least a little similar :-\? I have tried Dwellers, Andro's Journey (or something like that), and many others. Another problem that I have is that my phone doesn't have a keyboard. Please leave suggestions! Thanks.

Well, I guess there's the pocket version of Minecraft. Definitely not DF, but you can... explore dungeons?

If you are using an Android and are technically adept, I do believe there is a telnet server for it somewhere. A quick google turns up a few, but I'm not sure how reliable they are. Do some searching, and don't be scared of breaking your phone. After all, losing is fun.

Please expand this to any android games. I have been looking around for some time killers. Specifically I want games that are 100% offline.

I have a few I like.

Gem Miner: Simple mining game, dig ores, sell them, upgrade equipment. Nothing special
Mega Mall Story: You own a mall and fill it with shops. Fun but shallow.
National Flags Quiz: You can do flags to name or name to flags. Really cool, I play it every time I see a man about a horse. One time I managed to name every flag with out any mistakes. Not will you learn how to identify almost any flag but you also sound more educated when people talk about where they have been. No more thinking "Is that a country or a city?"

Not sure if you're referring to looking for Android games as a whole, but I've sunk a good deal of time into Dungeon Raid.

It's sort of like what you get if you cross a "Match Contiguous" [a la Azakend] with an RPG.

Dungeon Raid is amazing, as is anything by Kairosoft (though how amazing varies from game to game and how interested you are in the subject matter) I'm pretty sure Mega Mall Story is Kairosoft, isn't it?

Delver is a devent roguelike first person dungeon crawl, though I find the controls a bit finnicky. It's randomly generated each time you play though I think.

Legends of Yore is a cool little roguelike I got in one of the indie bundles. Cardinal Quest is another, but I find that a bit too simplistic.

Zen Pinball HD is awesome if you like pinball games, though the marvel tables are shit and more expensive than the non-licensed tables.

If you're up for some X-Com Lite, there's always Xenowar for about two bucks. There's also a PC version that's identical, but free.

I was like, ha, this looks like a pretty dumb and boring game. I was so wrong. Gentlemen, I have discovered true fun.

Looking through the games I have on my tablet and I was reminded of Majesty. It's a port of an old PC game, but it has a pretty DF feel in the sense that it's basically an RTS where you give suggestions instead of orders. You set bounties on monsters or rewards for quests and your heroes decide what they want (or don't want) to do based on how dangerous it is/ how much reward there is/ what level they are, etc. It's pretty fun and works really well with a touch screen.

Slash'em for Android.

Start as a Dwarf Archaeologist. Apply pickaxe regularly (but not so regularly that you starve).

We have an Android topic already... somewhere. Too busy playing games to look it up. Also, search "angband" in google play. Yes it's there. Yes you need a keyboard.

The android ports of Roguelikes never really do it for me, it's really hard to control a straight ported game like nethack/angband. Better to get something designed for mobile like Dweller. Wish someone would take the time to port Powder over.

You can play it on the GBA emulator, but sadly no Android port yet. Powder is pretty rad, so I'd like to see one too.

Not DFlike, but Android games I'd recommend:
Nethack (the one with the shield icon is best)
Anything by Hexage (beautiful asthetics, simple gameplay, old-school difficulty)
Age of Conquest (Like Risk, but with fog-of-war and buildongs, and no random dicerolling)

I've been playing this nifty game called Cyberlords (free version with ads), I don't know why I didn't see it before, being nearly two years old - probably that habit of mobile game stores of burying EVERY SINGLE COOL GAME under a humongous pile of TowerFarmCityVilleMafiaDefense clones.

Best way to describe, I guess, it's half of Shadowrun for Genesis (the half where you don't hack anything or cast spells... I mean, the combat part). Haven't exactly finished it and I've read it's kinda easy, short and linear, but at least it's a real game, unlike the tons of "social RPGs" out there.
