Dwarf just standing there getting hungry and thirsty?
« on: July 08, 2012, 06:25:45 pm »

Subject says it all. I have plenty of food and drink, and the dwarf has access to them. The dwarf isnt injured, and is happy.

Confusion.

Is the dwarf standing inside a workshop? Has there been any mining in the area recently? You can check for access to most tiles by trying to build there and seeing what comes up on the building material list.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

There was no burrow, and yes, she was in a workshop, then she died, then noone would get her corpse, then i dug a different tunnel into the side of the workshop. But, how did the dwarf get INTO the workshop but she couldnt get OUT?

Are you using 3x3 rooms to house your workshops? Different workshops have impassible tiles at various points in the 3x3 space, so it may have blocked off the entrance after the worker built it.

By any chance was your dwarf a Jeweler or Bowyer?

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Was the workshop room a 3x3? Workshops have "impassable" tiles that appear when they are built (the dark green X's IIRC). That means that if the door is in the wrong spot when you build the workshop the dwarf can get trapped because some of the impassable tiles block the doorway.

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

That workshop has three impassible tiles on the left side, meaning that it functions as a wall. The dwarf probably built it then starved to death because it walled itself in.

Could he have been wounded in some accident or mildly-retarded encounter with something even remotely dangerous? Maybe his legs/feet were broken and nobody bothered to carry him away or bring him food. Do you have a Hospital zone enabled with beds, etc?

this, also since noone would go and get the corpse

Jam a door with its corpse and let all the goblins in. Hey, nobody said it had to be a weapon against your enemies.

It's surely the same situation as it was there:
