I'm super attached to the Olm Man... I suppose my love for amphibious creatures like salamanders knows no bounds. Plus, he pretty much has night vision/infrared. So maybe we can just recruit these guys to join us after finding out their motives (and perhaps spin a whimsical tale about how joining up with us will save their rock).

You're doing it wrong. Here, let me show you the correct way to do Disappointment logic:

Are we dead? If yes, search for a new body. If not, wander around.
Do we see someone? If no, continue wandering around. If yes, evaluate their POWER LEVEL.
Is it OVER 9000 higher than ours? If yes, take over it. If no, punch it until it dies.
Repeat.
