The Blood and Industry server keeps "Read timed out"-ing me by the way, but I had to go to bed anyway :)
I'll take a look at the server in the morning.

I stayed on for a bit longer, and it seemed to have resolved itself. The cause has probably been a mystcraft age generated by Another12b that had lots of white decay in it, but he left it back to the overworld, then the lag stopped.

Sounds interesting. Have a link handy? I'll look into it.

Ask and ye shall receive.

I wasn't saying you should do that, but it kind of reminded me of that scenario when I read your description of the magic server.

That is a pretty neat challenge. I may modify it a bit if I use any part of it. Thanks!

Awesome idea for the magecraft server! I'm all for it! :D

One of the way to keep people together is to block the crafting of some important blocks, like e.g. the crafting table, and you then place such blocks where you want people to stay. I know of at least one server which did this, and, from what I heard, it worked well to keep people together.

Sounds pretty nifty to me, I like tech progression, artificial or not.

That challenge thing sure sounds interesting, but if we are to do that, can we at least build nice-looking structures?
(Nice-looking as in; pleasing to the eye, no need for extravagant stuff. :p )

That is the idea, yes. I'll probably end up modifying parts of the civ challenge Meph linked to and adapting it a bit to the mods I'll be including. I like the idea of cooperatively building a city with an organic layout and upgrading it over time as we get better tools and tech. (Tech here not meaning actual tech mods, just better tools and materials and such... and eventually spells and magic.)

By the way, will you use Custom NPCs?
To prevent abuse (such as having them sell you stuff for almost nothing), I think you can disable the crafting of the tools used to create/edit the NPCs.
Well it's just a question if you would want it on the magic server or not.

Great! I'm glad the idea is appealing to many of you.

I did some more work on it today. I might have it ready to start this weekend.

Oh and you'll be glad to hear that since I plan to use MCPC I can use a bukkit plugin to block creepers from blowing up the ground.

YES.
Also, can we not have the little water puddles that form in dirt? They're buggy and annoying.

If I can find a way to disable them, sure.

Does this mean you can prevent Endermen from making swiss cheese of the landscape as well?

I'll look into it.
