How to make a Point and Click Adventure
« on: July 02, 2012, 10:30:04 pm »

Might as well ask the people here for help on my project.

Hello everyone my name is Neonivek and I am trying once more to make a point and click adventure game. I checked online to those "Point and Click adventure game makers" but I found them to be limited to what I wanted to do (for example in one game I wanted TWO different "look" actions and the game didn't allow that sort of editing). I need some way to make the game as I want it. I'd rather roll back features as I find them too difficult then not have the option in the first place or even make a test game before I make a bigger one with the same techniques.

So I am stuck with no idea where to start or where to go from here.

I could try to kidnap some programmers but I don't have a hunting license (ha ha joke).

I have heard of the Wintermute Engine; several known games have been made with it.
Sorry if that's not what you're looking for; I have no experience with making a game like this.

Limbo of the Lost? Dear goodness that was a terrible game (If I am thinking of the right game), even if I kinda liked it. (I do suggest watching a letsplay of it, it is entertaining)

I guess I could look into it. It looks like it can do something, even if it seems like it is made a bit more for games like mist.

Though I hope people don't shy away now...

I'm playing around with macromedia fusion by clickteam.
It's very good. Perfect for making point and click games.

Oddly enough that could help. It would mean if I get stuck I have someone who fiddled with it to ask questions.

If you're okay with still pictures, HTML has the ability for you to make links in specific areas of an image. You could easily make a point-and-click game with that and JavaScript, which isn't that hard to use for that sort of thing.

It works but it isn't the style of point and clicks I am refering to.

I am mostly refering to things like Kings Quest.

Ah, okay. HTML5 might work for that, but I'm not sure how you would track clicks on a canvas, so maybe not.

If this is relevant Macromedia fusion does only 2D, but that probably doesn't matter since you mentioned king's quest

Have you tried http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.ukAdventure Game Studio[/url]?

Yes it is specifically the one that didn't work... at least I think so

I tried to put in one extra context command and I couldn't (Yes that is specifically why I stopped trying to use it). Also there is something wrong with how that thing animates sometimes >_<

I am starting to understand that there really is no answer to my question.

I really have to find out how to program period to do this or find someone who had made one (but very few people have who are not professionals and of them few would speak to me)

Ohh well.

It's Multimedia Fusion. Macromedia is the name of a company that has nothing to do with it.

It's not an embark so much as seven dwarves having a simultaneous strange mood and going off to build an artifact fortress that menaces with spikes of awesome and hanging rings of death.
