Reclaim mode, shortage of dwarves
« on: July 01, 2012, 12:24:49 pm »

Does anyone else remember the old reclaim mode, where you'd start with like 80 well-armed and military-skilled dwarves with which to actually stand a chance retaking a fallen fort?

Is that possible to get now?  It seems like that's been removed in favor of having your standard seven die before they even get off the wagon.

DF just makes the goblins there friendly. And the Titans there sneaky.

If you're trying to reclaim from clowns, all I can say is, good luck.

It won't help, but I'll wish it anyways.

so there's no way to get the old reclaim team then?  Just seven dudes with, at best, iron weapons?

'fraid so.

If you want a halfway decent strategy, constructing a secondary fort on the same area has worked for me routing out two Titans in the past. Just wall yourself in asap and train your soldiers to a godly level, using any migrants you get to keep production running and make equipment.

You already know what killed your fort, so you can (to an extent) plan how to kill it and retake your domain.

I don't think that's gonna work against the hundred 'clowns' as the past guy called them.  Welp!  I'll just adventurer and take them all out manually (haha sure)

Make a new fortress. Include at least one militiadwarf with a bronze spear, cheap (possibly wooden) shield, a helm and breastplate, and maybe some other armor if you've got spare points. Station the militiadwarf at the entrance to ward off clowns (hah!) and wild animals. With luck, the latter will distract all of the former that decide to leave the mines to investigate the new settlers. Die once some more come up. Repeat, modifying the number of militiadwarves as needed.

I believe there is some utility that allows you to embark with more dwarves.
