Hey guys which Pokemon game is the most valuable in terms of coming in touch with the specifics of the series? Unfortunately, I can't afford a 3DS with the game for it at the moment and I think it'd be great to find out if I'm going to like Pokemon games before the buying.

I recommend Pokemon Omicron/Zeta. Most of the features from the official games are included, plus some additional stuff, and two original story lines to enjoy.

Most Pokemon, except nearly all of Gen VI Pokemon. Also, all the Pokemon that were changed to Fairy-type in Gen VI are not in O/Z(ie, Clefairy is Normal-type, Mawile is pure Steel). Also, there are no things such as the Contests or Pokeathalons(crappy spelling - it's those those sports things in HG/SS).

Some poorly drawn uber-legendaries, only one of which you can actually acquire after insane effort - by which point you do not need it, period. Also, the level limit is increased to 120.

As far as I can tell, it's just the same story. The villains have different names, that's all. Olympus in Omicron, Asgard in Zeta. I've only played Zeta as far as the first trainer outside the first town though. Did not feel like going through that slogfest again...

I'd still suggest Zeta and Omicron (or for a better but unfinished game... Insurgence) as the alternative to buying it.

The bonus is that those games are 10 times more difficult then the actual pokemon games... Though the creators, even though they have the system, really don't have enough team battles.

Playing something way harder first is just going to be disappointing for the actual games, though.

I wouldn't recommend Zeta and Omicron on my own experience. They are certainly large games, but they just all feel rather lackluster and without charm. Things eventually sort of boil down to- slog through these 6 - 9 trainers to reach the next area so you can advance the plot. I got through the first half of the game after beating the Champion and called it quits after that.

Granted, it was still fun in some ways, but it eventually boiled down to a slogfest separated by towns, separated by groin kicks which killed my drive to keep playing. So, enter at your own peril. Experiences may vary, but eventually it just wasn't all that fun.

Yes, I realize that. ^.^

But when every trainer on Victory Road is talking about their dreams 'dying' I kind of want to slam my head into a wall repeatedly. Not to mention, the simple fact that you can usually avoid a great deal of trainers in the main games, while Zeta and Omicron funnel you through repeated slogfests for the hell of it. The main games aren't perfect either, but they do have ways of breaking things up on occasion.

If anyone is wondering what Hoopa is or what it's good for. Here's a quick summary.

Hoopa has two forms:

Confined version

It's Psychic / Ghost. Fairly okay in terms of typing. It dies in one hit to any dark or ghost move but those are relatively rare and kinda easy to predict. The most powerful move it fears is sucker punch as that can come out of nowhere and will OHKO it no matter what. Knock Off is another really common move that will instakill it.

Stats are meh. They seem high but it's too slow to regularly do anything and not tanky enough to survive attacks. For example, STAB earthquake can regularly OHKO it or at least bring it really low. It dies in two hits to almost any physical attack. Also, its ability is dumb.

It can hurt quite a bit if given the opportunity but with the speed problem, a lot of times what happens is it either dies the same turn it comes in... or gets off one attack then dies.

It's pretty decent against special attackers but there are a lot of better options. After all, it will still die in one hit to anything with Shadow Ball or Dark Pulse or things like that.

Unbound version:

This one is significantly better than the unbound version. Really you only have to watch out for Bug type moves, specifically U-turn. The rest are quite rare. It may have 2x weakness to fairy moves, but the only fairy move that is actually a significant threat against it is Play Rough.

It's still really slow though, but like M-Camerupt, it can really pack a punch under specific circumstances. So you have to play around that. This thing really hurts both physically and specially. Lastly, it has access to a great move called Hyperspace Fury. It's basically a Dark-type Earthquake. I've swept quite a lot of teams with this single attack especially after a round of buffs. One reason why that move is so fearsome is because nothing is immune to Dark-type attacks and very, very, very few pokemon have 1/4 defense against Dark.

Getting Shell Smash baton-passed onto this guy is brutal. It'll still easily die to U-turn though and that move is crazy common. It's defensive stats are also the same as the confined version, which means it dies fairly easily to physical attacks and this time it isn't immune to fighting and normal.
