My dorfs are refusing to make adamantine weapons / armors?

I have two adamantine wafers (hey, strand extraction requires an absurd amount of time), and I have manager orders to make a short sword and shield, but nothing is happening.

If I insert the orders manually, they bring the wafers to the forges, then take them away and the order vanishes.

De hell?

Wasn't it that adamantite items need 3x of material? It would mean 3 wafers for sword and 3 wafers for shield.

Haven't toyed around adamantite for almost a year, so I can be wrong :P

That suggests that something is missing. Check the announcements page? It usually tells you why something goes wrong/doesn't happen/happens the wrong way.

Yes, that was it - you need 3 wafers to do a weapon.

As soon as a third one was produced, the smith got moving and now I have my sweet adamantine sword crafted by a legendary smith.

What quality did he get with that sword?  I'm pretty sure we're all hoping it was Masterwork. ;)
