Morrowind.  Not as much for what I found, but because i could pile it in gigantic hoard piles, and I mean GIGANTIC.

Dwarf fortress almost has an awesome loot system but needs more reasons to have money and it needs place to pile hoards.

If not under Neotemplar look for Vellum.

Does anyone want to trade something for Terraria on steam? Will consider most non-indie bundle (except Bastion) game offers.

I like TF2's system. It's a little ridiculous at times, though.

Simply put:
Unless you play on 1/4th damage masterworks won't save you and i like it.
Oh yes, i remember after thinking the combats in Warband were too easy and discovering that the default setting was at 1/4 damage for the player.

Oh the difference it did when i changed that setting to get 100% of the damage.
Where before it was trivial to just charge into the melee, get shot by a dozen of arrows and bolts and still destroy everything in front and side of my horse, after the change of damage percentage ... getting killed in only a few seconds of doing the same "charge and destroy" was a rather humbling experience .

But so much more challenging and fun.

I'm a big fan of Dungeons of Dredmore's autoloot system; Being able to tailor what kind of items you pick up really keeps the pace moving.

I like Xcom loot system, everything they carried as long as you didn't blow it up, and you got it all at the end without having to worry about it while fighting.

I really like Neo Scavenger's inventory and loot system, and honestly it's the only thing I enjoy about the game.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. has the best inventory and loot system of every FPS I've played.
You'll almost always been looting for ammo/meds/bandages. Due to item decay and the lack of ammo getting a great gun (which wasn't really all that possible early game) or armour would mean you'll have to stash it away and use a gun with some common ammo.

Metro: 2033 gets an honourable mention not due to it's rather shoddy inventory mechanics but rather having to loot gas masks and filters to survive in harsher conditions.

Best system for me would be one that gives me everything the enemy carried, minus what they used/broke in fight, plus the sum total of all their bodyparts (or at least their faces so I could wear them as a mask), and potentially their souls.

Of course, the only place I find that is in tabletop.  Or at least used to.... haven't played in awhile.

Maybe check out vapors of insanity! Interface is ahahahaha but there's some neat stuff in there, possibly involving souls (though I'm not actually sure because if you can do it I could never figure out how to talk the UI into letting me. Wheeee.).

Several roguelikes let you loot what the enemy was carrying, actually, to varying degrees. Incursion's nice about that, ferex.

I liked baldur's gate and fallout 1/2 loot systems.

I don't like randomized chests/loot.

I like secret treasure rooms, but only if they're not too common and have interesting loot. Also i like collectibles, but i don't like when there's too many types of collectibles to keep track of, or if they feel too generic or useless.

And i like looting what the enemy is carrying, or at least looting something consistent with the type of enemy. Looting gold or equipment from an animal tends to break the mood. Also, even when it's randomized and/or non-consistent with the type of enemy, i like narrow ranges of loot, instead of looting any type of item on any monster of the right level.

If it does anything right, FFXII gets the loot right as far as animals are concerned. You have to do certain things to unlock books which allow you to get extra loot from enemies to be able to get much from animals - they won't drop money or usable items. The cactus enemies might rarely drop a cactus flower, the wolves might drop fangs but you'll never get a potion from either.

Also, looting is an automatic system - things drop little golden bubbles that you walk over to get whatever their loot was.

And if you kill a creature in a chain you get a combo that increases the drop rates. It also makes the bubbles change to pretty red and orange colours as you go up(I think) 10x, 20x, 30x with your combo.
