'Stud with <metal>' with linked stockpiles?
« on: June 18, 2012, 03:03:02 pm »

...So I linked a bar stockpile which had the required metal bars, and a finished goods stockpile which had some metal crafts. I got cancellation messages about needing improvable items. What gives?

Does studding require coal? I don't know I never do it since my forts usually don't reach the magma layer.

It needs no fuel

Solution: don't put the crafts inside bins. :/

It doesn't work with the stuff inside bins. Is it a bug?

Oh yeah, hauling is really wonky right now, I almost died of starvation when some guy was collecting seeds by bringing the whole seed stockpile to the kitchen, picking up one seed and bringing it back, repeatedly.

The usual solution is to make two identical stockpiles, one with zero bins or barrels that gives to the other which has max bins and barrels, and only accepts from the first one, which accepts from anywhere.

So, workshop pulls from small stockpile with no bins that is constantly filled from the full bin stockpile that pulls from anywhere?  Sounds like it should work.

Er, the other way around, the workshop pulls from the stockpile that has bins, which pulls from the stockpile that has no bins, which pulls from anywhere. Sorry it was a little confusing.

I've had the same setup working with no problems. And the goods stockpile used bins.

You do need to have enough goods in the stockpile so that if 1 dwarf takes the only bin to haul something, it's not left empty.

I thought the problem was you couldn't stud the items in bins?

You can stud item in bins just fine. . . unless some Urist McHauler decides to take the bin on a field trip.
