Ok, 1.31 is out and I got around to testing it.
Looks cute, I have great FPS, nice music, mining is enjoyable.

But apparently to make Stone walls, I need to build a stonecutter, except the stonecutter requires stone walls!
Is this tech tree insane or am I missing something?

Hi,

I am the developer of Masterspace and I just want to inform you that version 1.4 is out now:

Masterspace v1.4 has been released, finally introducing a long-awaited feature: liquid simulation. This allows planets to be filled with completely dynamic liquids, such as water and lava. The water simulation is mass-conserving, which means that no water is created or destroyed during the flow. There is also an implementation of liquid compression, which makes the water flow more realistic.

This version also includes generated trees on the planets, which may be harvested to fabricate wood boards. Consequently, the functionality of the photosynthesizer has been reworked to be able to fabricate any organic matter, including grass, wood and leaves. New objects also include defensive turrets, trading posts and electronic components.

On the multiplayer side, it is now possible to assign teams to players and objects. This means that competitive play is now possible, with opposing teams starting on different planets, having ownership of their own constructed objects. Teams are also considered by the AI of e.g. turrets, when deciding what to target. There are also hostile turrets occupying neutral planets, so prepare to meet some resistance when expanding your sphere of influence. A hint is to mount turrets on your spaceship before exploring the universe.

Download the free version here:

To upgrade to the full version (for paying customers), please download and run this unlocker (requires login). Please note that the unlocker is version specific and you need to run this after the v1.4 installation, regardless if you have installed another version of the unlocker previously.

Additionally, two new music pices are included and a marker for deposition of materials has been implemented, which makes it easier to place blocks correctly. As usual, a lot of bugs and crashes has been fixed and the performance has been improved. For a complete changelog, please see below:

New features:
  • Liquid simulation
  • Trees and forest generator
  • Terrain modification marker
  • Support for teams
  • Player damage by weapons
  • Automated turrets
  • Two new music pieces
  • Improved death and respawn system
  • New objects, materials and goods

Bug fixes:
  • Lots of bug fixes and performance improvements

Other:
  • Star system generation implemented by scripting
  • Included Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package in the installer

Masterspace v1.5 has been released, introducing support for spherical planets. This has been a popular feature request since the first release of Masterspace. The traditional hemispherical planets are still there and will continue to be the standard planet type for now. This is due to some features, like trees and water, not being available in this geometry yet. To enable the generation of spherical planets, change the last setting in the configuration frontend.

As it is very difficult to construct buildings on a spherical planet by placing cubes, the concept of contruction platforms is introduced. Placement of construction platforms allows buildings that are not aligned to the cubic grid. They are essentially voxel volumes, that are placed inside another voxel volume. This makes it easy to construct rotated buildings, which is crucial to be able to build in any angle on spherical planets. Of course this will also be useful in constructing rotated buildings on planar planets, as illustrated in this screenshot.

Another new feature is the possibility to use custom voxel meshes, which allows for construction of e.g. pipelines. Pipes are constructed in the steel forge and may be placed like any other material. The plan is for pipelines to be able to pump liquids from one place to another, although this has not been implemented yet.

As usual, a some bugs and crashes have also been fixed. For a complete changelog, please see below:

New features:
  • Spherical planets
  • Support for voxel subvolumes
  • Support for custom voxel types
  • Construction sites
  • Pipelines

Bug fixes:
  • Fixed some crash bugs related to digging and world generation

Other:
  • New font for the interface

New version is great! Any idea how long before pumps will be implemented?

I will try to get the pumps working in the next version, together with some rain to make it more interesting.

Personally I had enough of the lego simulators. I am tired of them.

Downloaded the game. Posting my impressions as I play.

Cons:
The music is absolutely atrocious.
'Save and exit' for some reasons quits the game entirely.
My first quickstart dumped me somewhere underwater, with a bed standing nearby.
When switched to third-person mode, digging doesn't work. At all. A green line flashes and the grass tile I just dug respawns.
No matter how diverse a block I try to dig, it'll always give me only a single, pretty much random, type of resource.
The planet is a sphere (or maybe a circle), but I still managed to walk off it and fall into infinite void.
Jumping physics are horribly, HORRIBLY broken.
Putting down blocks is clunky and unwieldy. For some reason after LMB is pressed (and held) to put down a block, camera refuses to move until you release the button. Makes putting several blocks in a row a horrible chore.
In the tutorial mission, destroying the robot with a pickaxe crashed the game.
Building anything takes a HILARIOUS amount of resources. For example, you need to mine out SEVERAL mountains to build a single stone forge.

Pros:
The explosions are pretty satisfying.

Conclusion:
Show me some idiot person who bought this 'game' so I can laugh in his face.

That lego simulator hate post was one waste of a post id.
I look forward to this game. People seem to fail to understand that we are neither playibg a finished product, nor being super serious no-fun-allowed bug hunters that are legally bound not to enjoy the game, nor scream at everyone.

It's a lot easier to evaluate a game when either A: it doesn't crash randomly, or B: saving is enabled. It might sound harsh, but you need one or the other for me to consider buying, because digging out enough stone for a forge and then waiting like half an hour to get enough steel for a better pickaxe isn't really that fun. I could just cheat, but that's besides the point.

Regardless, it looks cool. The music made me laugh. I'll probably eventually give in.
