Cave-ins very deadly now?
« on: June 09, 2012, 02:45:24 pm »

It used to be that dwarves only died from cave-ins when it fell directly on top of them, but now it seems like the dust cloud that is created is made up of boiling magma and near-instantly kills anyone caught in it.

Hm, mine hasn't been doing that.
Have you modded the raws at all? Did you cave in warm rock/molten rock?

This isn't new. Cavein dust has been shoving people around for ages. The big difference is that now creatures skid along the ground.

The reason that the dust is called "boiling magma" is because the dust is treated as gas, and named what the gas is named.

They didn't die from cave-ins. They died from cave-in dust. Death from cave-in means being atom-smashed by a falling tile of natural rock/soil. Death from cave-in dust means dieing from being flung into walls or floors at high speed.

Cave-ins of constructions are grey areas in that.

Back in 31.25 I had a miner suffocate just after getting hauled to the hospital due to cave-in dust getting into his lungs.  The cave-in itself isn't always what kills them.
