New video's in, showing off a bunch of free roaming scenes. We don't get anything on the central story, which I'm just fine with. If it's good, I don't want it spoiled. If it's bad, I don't want it drawing attention from the more entertaining aspects of the game.
There's a lot of cues taken from some of the recent games. The part where he takes over the data place reminded me a bit of AC3's base capturing, and I'm not surprised (or disappointed) to see that you can't simple run around and hack everything right off the bat, if it is indeed for actually gaining access to an area's systems. The take downs seemed to be solely lethal (Note the Enemy Killed notification on the top right), and there weren't any nonlethal weapons on display in the stores, so no hints as to whether you'll be able to play Batman and try to minimize casualties. The chase scene was straight out of GTA, but with some toys to slow down the cops and get them off of your tail.
Some new things I saw: You can hack into people's computers and watch them in their own homes, which is both creepy and cool. The part where the store owner sees your face on TV, presses a panic button and causes a chase was a nice surprise. There won't be any GTA-esque lack of consequences for committing crimes. I'll call it right now, though: There'll be a way to hack into systems and delete evidence you leave behind, so there may not be any permanent identity crises consequences. Hopefully it'll be challenging to do, and hopefully there will be some consequences you can't deal with so easily, such as a more alert police force, but I'm not holding my breath for that.
Overall, the world looks like one of the more vibrant and alive we've seen in a triple-A game for some time. There's obviously been a lot of world building, and I love the little details that they put in, like the occupations people have, their income, and bits of their official history.
Looks pretty fun.
