I finally had my first dream about dwarf fortress.
« on: June 03, 2012, 11:41:19 am »

I was on a glacier (fortress mode) and I had a few military dwarves, and I sent them out to the glacier, and then I melted the ice, and under them was an infinite sea. Then I got some migrants, and goblins came, but some of the migrants were military dwarves too, and they fought them off while I sealed off the fortress because I assumed they were going to die. Later I checked on them and they were all legendary and had weapons, but none of the goblins were dead.

What's with people wanting dreams about Dwarf Fortress? What is it about this game which causes dreams?

I had a dream about DF once. I got a child with legendary skills. He was from a bandit camp with platinum tents or something.

Was the dream in ASCII?

I remember I once had a dream where everything (in the real world) went so out of control, God himself decided to step in and regen the world. The worldgen part was entirely in ASCII. It was beautiful.

DF just seems like a dream-inducing game to me. Kind of like dreaming in binary after watching the (first) matrix. That was the weirdest dream I've ever had. I woke up wondering why my cereal tasted like chicken.

Yeah. Its probably because you have to use your imagination to intepret the screen, and that sort of carries into sleep.

Also congrats OP! Your now a bona fide DF fan!

I woke up wondering why my cereal tasted like chicken.

Just had a flashback to the kid "Maybe they couldn't figure out what to make chicken taste like, which is why chicken tastes like everything..."

OT: waking up in the middle of the night, screaming "TANTRUM SPIRAL! BUILD COFFINS AND KILL THE KITTENS!" can have severe side-effects if your girlfriend is sleeping next to you. I have no memory of the dream itself, but she still points out my 'excessive gaming ways' with alarming regularity.

Sometimes ASCII seems more realistically rendered than reality.
