[BUG] Shift+comma not <
« on: May 30, 2012, 02:53:09 pm »

Hello!
I have some strange bug. I played 2-3 days in DF and everything was perfecly god but now something are going wrong. At start, game worki good, but after some time game controlers start doing weird thing. I can't change Z-levels, because game don't see '<' as '<'. I checked this in bindings and when i press SHIFT+, i created another binding "Shift+coma" not '<'. All capital letters don't work too. So i can't use Construction menu and others thing by shorcuts... Any ideas what can be wrong?

I tested two keybords, i have PL layout, and my system is Windows 7 Ultimate (with updates turned on) 64bit.

Have you changed your keyboard language recently? Diferent languages have different locations for keyboards.
So if you were, for example trying to learn japanese or french and your native language is english or some other and you changed your keyboard so as to be able to write in japanese characters or use some french letters, then it may sometimes switch between the native and newly installed language at the press of a key that you didnt notice.

I've very occasionally had strange things happen with my keyboard in DF.  Usually the only thing that corrects this is to exit the game and reboot the computer.  Specifically these involved the shift system not working correctly.  A lesser problem has been a cursor key seeming to get stuck and the screen being pinned to one edge of the map, not always the same edge.  This only has required restarting the game, and not the OS.  Not that it is easy to save the game when the cursor is cycling madly through the menu, but it was eventually possible.

I had that happening, solution: disable the short-bus controls, specifically (i think) 'sticky keys'.

As to the OP: I dunno.

Are you using Comodo Internet Security? I am also on Win7 64-bit and if I have Defense+ enabled in Comodo he does not recognize the shift key in the new version of DF. Worked fine in older verions.

Most key df problems can be solved with ctr+shift.

The only thing I can relate this to is using the DFTerm servers.  Using > and T and Z and whatever work.  But Shift + 'left arrow' doesn't work, because that's not a unique key.  There's a difference between , and < and there's a difference between t and T, but "left" and "shift left" does not print a different key, so it had trouble.

Not entirely useful, but it may be similar.  It depends on how your keyboard/OS parses the keystrokes.

Yeah, you need to do that if you haven't already. You need to do it manually from control panel if you're using XP, the dialog that comes up when you hold shift doesn't seem to turn it off. Also try tapping both the left and right shift keys.

Maybe you could get another virus protection that does not end up with these problems. I have never heard of the thing you are using.

Adding it to the trusted files does nothing for me. What works is disabling the keybord access monitoring by going into the "Defense+ Settings" and on the "Monitoring Settings" tab remove the check mark next to "Keyboard". Alternatively, disable Defense+ while playing DF.

Comodo is a firewall, not AV. I can't imagine why it would do that though. If it's a big enough problem to consider replacing it, get Spybot and use the immunize tab. It adds a bunch of malicious addresses to your hosts file and accomplishes the same thing essentially.
