Gnolls are fireproof? who knew!?
« on: May 28, 2012, 06:10:00 am »

So, a wandering necro raised a gnoll arm I had lying around. Get caught in a trap and dragged off to my pitting chamber, no biggie.

2 years later, I'm cleaning out the horde of goblins and beak wolves trapped in cages and I remember the gnoll arm.
Since I had some mages I wanted to get rid of without endangering dwarves to their spells, I dug a lava pit for disposal.
Mage 1 to 5 go in and burn into smoke. Few seconds later, arm goes in after them.
It's now been about 2 seasons and it's still generating combat report spam that it's caught in boiling magma.

So...I thought magma was supposed to be a sure-fire kill-all monster disposal solution. What's the deal with my undead gnoll arm?

+1 to many, many threads of undead burning forever

so to answer topic questions, no gnolls are not fireproof, but zombies are pretty much resistant. And most people knew.

would be funny if it'll kill a FB though

Jam a door with its corpse and let all the goblins in. Hey, nobody said it had to be a weapon against your enemies.

And then everyone melted.

Bugger me then, I guess I'll have to find a way to let it out and kill it the old-fashined way, eh?

er gnolls are not vanilla, right ?

But yes, zombies are immune to fire and magma. I hope this gets fixed soon.

Gnolls probably came from here.

Fire should be the definitive counter to undead, its annoying that it currently does zilch.

My beef with this isn't that fire doesn't deter zombies (it shouldn't, when you think about it), but that fire doesn't cause super facemelt death to flesh the way it should, charring it or turning it into ash or just carbonizing it like it should.

When a corpse burns faster in magma than a zombie, that doesn't make sense.

Yeah this has been around for a while. I remember embarking on an evil volcano in the 31' days, a zombie cave dragon entered the magma sea somehow (probably a magma chute ending in cavern 3), came up through the volcano to the surface, his skin and fat melting as he did so but he didn't care.

This is the (buggy) nature of magma currently; it can't really melt entire creatures, it just horrifically (but superficially) melts away surface tissue and causes lots of bleeding - which is enough to kill living creatures, but zombies can't be bled out.

As I've said before magma doesn't kill zombies it just makes them angry and on fire.
