Genning Specific Features.
« on: May 28, 2012, 04:54:12 am »

Hi guys, back again for another rare-ish post.

Just wondering if anyone is able to enlighten me into the finer details of the advanced generation system. Such as figuring out what works with what to generate specific World features.

Things like Rings of Mountains, Striped Worlds, HUGE internal seas/lakes and the like? If anyone has any premade worlds with a ring of mountains I and would like to let me have it, I wouldn't say no  ;)

If my understanding of advanced world gen is correct, then generating a ring of mountains won't be reliable at all. Mountain ranges, sure, but I don't think you can really control the shape of them.

I think large internal seas are doable, but I've never messed with that part of it so I'll let others answer that for you.

there is a 'worldgen cookbook thread somewhere, maybe you can find what you're looking for there

Thanks guys, the advanced wiki guide helped quite a bit. I think I've just managed to gen a small Ring of mountains on my fourth gen. (3Large, 1medium) Sand and ash on the inside though with no river or aquifer. Should prove interesting to try :p

Edit: Aw at the last second it genned in a bunch of ponds.

Anytime. :) Just out of curiosity, why were you looking for a ring of mountains? did you want an isolated embark that wasn't an island or something?

Spinning, basically.

My long term plan is to plonk a huge Dwarf fort in the middle of it and then once its dead try to have an Adventure Mode to it. Should be interesting trying to climb the mountains to it.

Ah, sounds like it could be a laugh :) write up a thread about your adventurers journey to it if you ever get the fort finished. :)

Just in case you missed it, there's that world painter thing that allows you to draw whatever shape of landscape you desire.
