Objecticon: A Soldier's Tale
A Text Suggestion Game

You wake in your cot, amidst the sounds of your light-sleeping companions. The hard wooden frame will no longer permit you restful sleep, so you slip out and exit the small building you have commandeered as a base of operations.
It is early morning, just before sunrise, and Jake is here on guard duty. He doesn't acknowledge your presence, continuing to stare directly ahead.

You feel a moment of disorientation as you awaken fully. What was your name again?

You are Mark James, Soldier of the Keystone Army, Tier Three.

Light is beginning to touch the sky to the East, and another of your squadmates exits the building.
Roe is your superior, a Tier Two 'Cube user who's saved your life more times than you can count.

"Anything?" The question is directed at Jake.
"Explosions to the south. Several miles away. Followed by gunshots."
Jake never was one for small talk.

"Get geared up," this time he addresses you, "and wake the others. We're investigating."

You head back inside and grab your rifle.
It's pretty mundane, a standard-issue mechanical firearm powered by gunpowder from the bullets. Pretty low-tech, but effective.
The bullets are anti-infantry rounds that are most effective against meat-based targets, which comprise most of the enemy's forces, at least on this front.
Fighting three different, extremely varied enemy powers at once has lead to a lot of specialized weaponry.

You begin waking the others. Morgan and Morrigan get up instantly, but Henry needs a good shake to rouse him.
All together you think you make a pretty good squad, though you have one more person than is standard. You and the twins are basic infantry, while Henry specializes in field medicine and Jake is an explosives expert. Roe, as the commander of the squad, is a 'Cube user who excels at information retrieval.

You line up at the southern end of the building and are addressed by Roe;
"We're going to be investigating the gorge to the south for possible Naturalist activity. If you see any funny-looking animals, report it immediately. I don't care if it's a bird, a hedgehog, or a bee. They use everything."

The squad begins to move, rifles at the ready.

You imagine that it would be perfectlypossible to stuff the rifle in a cube and use it as a weaponized Object, but using a normal cube would probably just weaken it.
If you could get your hand on some Military Grade Cubes you'd have a lot more firepower, but they only hand those out to Tier Twos and above.

You know that Roe has some kind of Objecticon, but you've never actually seen him use it.

The squad is nearing the point of interest, with the commander and Jake taking point.
"Mark, go investigate the western end with the twins. Jake, you're with me and Henry."
The jagged slit in the landscape stretches as far as you can see in either direction, a narrow wound that was caused years ago in a battle from before your time.

The twins glanse at you expectantly. They don't make decisions well on their own, so you guess you're the leader by default.
The other three have begun moving east.

Stuff one cube inside another cube.

I've been wanting to see what that would do since the middle of the original game

((We don't actually have any cubes, sorry to disappoint. Though, if all goes as planned we'll be getting some very soon...))

"Sir," you call to the commander, "I think that if there is even the possibility of enemy engagement, we should stick together."

He pauses for a moment.
"Alright, if you don't feel up to splitting then get your ass in gear and follow me."

You start after him, while the twins trade glances and proceed after you.
You walk for several minutes without incidence, when suddenly Jake crouches and brings his pistol up.
"Enemies in the trench, ten o' clock."

He fires as the rest of the squad, yourself included, take positions at the lip of the gorge.
In your field of vision are three large beetle-like insect, roughly the size of a man crawling on his belly, as well as two much larger ant-like insects.
One of the ants raises its head and spews forth a stream of green-red liquid which splashes you and Henry!

Take a moment to consider what a 'Cube is.
