An Announcement That Made My Day
« on: May 23, 2012, 04:58:19 pm »

I saw this announcement and immediately smiled.

Unfortunately I don't have a butcher, so the little ampersand-in-a-cute-disguise lives another day.

Cage it.  Keep it from adopting until you do have a butcher, and maybe get more meat out of it.

Okay! But won't that make the dwarf sad? Also, I've never built a dwarven atom smasher before, how do?

Build a bridge on top of a wide, flat area. Type == raised.

Attach to lever.

Raise bridge.

Place items to destroy underneath the bridge. (In this case, a pasture zone with cat in it.)

Pull lever.  No more kitty.

Atom smashing is a bit of a crapshoot, but mot creatures destroyed this way just "go missing" and are never found, preventing the "Oh no! My poor kitty!" Bad thought.

Raised? As in you specify a direction? I'll try.

Make it at least 2 tiles long.  Otherwise it can be tricky to tell at a glance whether it's raised or lowered.  Also, bigger footprint == easier kill.

There are 2 types of bridge.

"Extended", and "raised".  This determines how the bridge operates.  You want the "raised" kind.

Also, I think the detection of kitty being mooshed has to do with dwarf line of sight. Make the atom smasher in a remote location, with the lever far from it, so the lever puller won't see the kitty get mooshed.  This should increase the odds of the kitty just going missing.

If you like beestings, build a bunch of beehives inside your animal pasture room or your dining room if you can get light to it. The only bad part is the enormous volume of bee remains that are generated as a result.

Light? Since when do Dwarven bees need sunlight? Don't ask me how they make honey though...plump helmets?

I don't think you can build hives in darkness.

You can, in fact. And the only threat to the bees are the cats.

Unless Toady was sneaky and started applying logic to these things.

In which case you can still apply the channel out- roof over method normally used to grow aboveground plants belowground.
