Hmm, so to make something fireproof but not quite magma proof youd want it to melt or ignite around 11500u then.

question, since there is the arc of armies marching from their civs to you. Does that mean ACTIVE_SEASON for entities only effect Trade now?

Just before 44.x release Toady said in an Fotf reply that Active_Season doesn't effect siege timing any more.
Seems to be true, I've been getting out of season sieges ocassionally. Not sure if they're still favoring active_season over other seasons though.

Yeah, just been attacked by dwarves in the winter. I'm playing wild dwarves, naturally hostile to regular dwarves. No provocation, very nearby so they haven't been marching since Autumn or anything. Regular siege, not an ambush.
[Active_Season] is Autumn.

I'm trying to make a ram attack; not a gore, this is a creature running into you with its flat, hard head. Is there a skill that can be used for that? I can't seem to find any; I'd presume just renaming the standard shove and buffing it a bit might work, but again, no clue where that is.

The standard push is hardcoded so you wont see it in the raws, and theres not a skill for headbutting stuff. Maybe use stance_strike or bite since it depends on good footwork and swinging the head around.
You can just make a headbutt attack similar to a punch but dependent on the head not the hand

The standard push is hardcoded so you wont see it in the raws, and theres not a skill for headbutting stuff. Maybe use stance_strike or bite since it depends on good footwork and swinging the head around.
You can just make a headbutt attack similar to a punch but dependent on the head not the hand

Considering it's a charge, stance_strike would probably be the most fitting; bite is affected by the mouth I'd assume, and a punch would just feel wrong. Thanks!

I think he meant like a punch as in similar to how the PUNCH attack is (full contact, blunt)

so ive been trying to add paralyzing venom to the leech man and tried making it work together with the blood sucking part of the biting process but i cant get it to work, either theres no venom injection or the blood sucking doesnt work.

can anyone see whats wrong? (very first time im modding and only had dwarf fortress for 2 weeks)

If I give a creature a SHELL but not RETRACT_INTO_BP, how effective will the shell be at acting as additional protection?  Similar question, does a creature with horns get any head protection?

The shell'll be slight protection as long as whatever targets it instead of softer parts for an attack. Horns, though, don't protect at all, I think.

The shell'll be slight protection as long as whatever targets it instead of softer parts for an attack. Horns, though, don't protect at all, I think.

Thank you.  Here was the thought I had after posting (which was after looking at the raws): If a creature is being hit in the horn it's not being hit in the head.  Since horns are RELSIZE 100 and the head RELSIZE 300, it seems having a pair of horns might significantly alter the number of blows that aim for the head if there is a die roll somewhere for target based on RELSIZE.  I know creatures can aim for their favorite body part and they all love aiming for the head when they can, but how often can they not?

I'm going to have to learn how to do arena testing, aren't I?

Not particularly hard. Pause the game, use k-w-l to make rock walls around an enclosure, then k-c to create a couple creatures, then unpause and look at the combat logs.

I recommend making 2 copies of the raw; one with the original copy, and one with the name changed to CREATURE_BIGHORNS. That way you can test them both at the same time.
