Minecarts question thread
« on: May 14, 2012, 12:16:04 pm »

Its time to tell tales of many minecart related stories and injuries boys and girls1

I 2 have a question
Do minecarts give knockback? if so how much?

YEP!

I just had a rather unfortunate accident in my fort.  I was carting cobaltite blocks up to the surface to build a greenhouse roof, and I built a minecart track to speed up the transit.  Unfortunately, I made it wrong, and it ended up falling back down the ramps and into the poor dorf pushing it.

He was partially disemboweled, and then killed when he ricocheted off several different walls.

So... lots.  At least for completely full minecarts barreling downhill.  I imagine it's based off the minecart's weight and speed.

i have laid tracks in a 5x9 rectangle (so the cart rides in circles) with one roller set to medium which i disconnected from the energy source long ago (half a month i think), yet the cart happily continues to ride.. i thought the corners woud deal some friction so the cart would stop after a few rounds but it doesn't seem like it o.O

question would bne how to stop that thing safely ;)

I'd be shocked if dwarves didn't eat the demons they killed. After all, if they're willing to eat a poison spewing monstrosity, why not a flying dinosaur thing that hates all life?

Interesting... That could have potential for a 'machinegun' style cart-launcher that's much more compact.

Rather than making a long roller-ramp to launch one cart at a time, build a loop, and line up carts onto it, constantly running in circles.  Hook it up to a retracted bridge so that when the bridge is down, the carts will shoot off onto it and be launched.

So with a pull of a lever, BAM, instant 5-cart launch right in the kisser.

Hell, you could even have multiple bridges, so the carts could be launched wherever you want them to....

I've also prepared a shotgun (and discovered the coins don't destack), and it seems that either dwarves push very hard, or else rollers are always powered.  5 tiles of track and then a drop, and it whisks down easily.

Current consensus seems to be rollers are always powered (or rather, they say they need power, but work anyway with none)
