Take your whole army to the fortress, no point cleaning your place up until you have the cash to do it properly, and loot means extra haulers...

A few hours later, me and my new minions stand outside the broken oak doors to the fort. It sits upon a hill like a grey, mossy toad, crumbling walls rolling rubble down the sides into the dark woods. The crescent moon rises over the mountains to the east as the sun begins to dip below the hills to the west, and the creak of skeletal bones gives the whole area a haunting atmosphere.

I have a feeling that this is my last chance to go home and curl up. Am I prepared to enter this godsforsaken place?

what was that scuffle oh, just a rat. I'm growing paranoid...

We have nothing to lose.
Expect our life.
Or worse, our dashing looks.

The doors are still whole enough to creak as we push the shattered wreckage out of the way.

Inside is a amazing vista. Stained glass windows play a melody of soft colors on the floor with fading sunlight, glittering like gold in the setting sun. The mossy stone has a venerable, wise feel to it. I can feel the memories of this place in my feet, vibrations of long gone footsteps, a song unremembered by an unremarkable musician, holding a precious value simply by being so old. The trees strech shadows  across the room in stripes, waving forlornly at the gathered dust in the corners and the cobwebs. A family of rats nests in the corner, but they are unafraid of the newcomers. I can't rustle up the will to kill them, somehow.

Me and my forces spread out around the room. Two doors block our way on the north and east sides, and the iron plays in the rainbow array of colors lazily. It's breathtaking, dustmotes swirling in dance one last time. I stand in the center, a large spot of red. It comes from the west window, the largest one, and the central figure within casts the crimson shadow.

I stand in the shadow of Olive, Goddess of Saviors and vagabonds. For the first time, I feel holy without the burn.

  It feels nice.

  East door?

  North door?

NORTH!

Also, we are a pretty nice necromancer, aren't we?
Can't even kill rats.
Okay, rats are somewhat cute, but...

Kind of the whole point is that you're a pretty nice guy who happens to be a necromancer.

Oh and there's also a invasion. Of sorts. People who've played Might and Magic may understand.

I decide on the north door. The skeletons and zombies follow close behind me.

It's dark in here, so I light a small flame on my staff to see by. The walls are stone block, old and mossy, and unbroken by windows. Doors are scattered baout the corridor, but they lead nowhere; this seems to be a dormitory. I find a few bits of gold, but little else.

On the far side of the corridor, we turn left into a small room. It's perfectly empty, save for a table in the center, with a chair. A single candle gutters in the center of the table.

As I step through the door, it shuts with a loud SMASH, and the light on my staff goes out! I'm left with only the light from the tiny candloe to work by... The door seems stuck, or locked. Or both...
