On which difficulty?
Also, you're not doing anything stupid like not researching the wormhole travel tech, right? ;D

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

To give an answer equally as vague as your question:

Every time I play this game I remember why I play Distant Worlds and GalCiv 2 instead. It looks so good on paper but falls flat(for my personal preferences) every time.

Yeah.

But I don't regret giving them money.  The description of the Horatio was worth every penny.

If I write fancy descriptions for you can you give me money too? =D

Bingo.

ES I pre-ordered and enjoyed, and liked their descriptions and such, even if ultimately the game was boring.  Unlike most AAA games I buy, which are boring and bland.

Incredibly wealthy and only slightly less deranged, Horatio was an Imperial trillionaire who left to discover his own star cluster. Finding a planet sprinkled with labs of ancient cloning technology left by the Endless, the boredom soon drove Horatio to create a race of allies, servants, and slaves who were every bit as gorgeous as the most beautiful person in the universe -- Horatio. Once the planet was repopulated, Horatio the First had only to look up, regard the stars and realize how much more beautiful they, too, would be if they were filled with... Horatios. The rest, as they say, is history.
That's a really short novel. :P

But I digress. Yeah, honestly they screwed up pretty hard with the combat. It was fun maybe the first 3 times or so. But you either need to just completely bypass the combat if it's not a focus (and subsequently pour more into other areas), or put more effort into it. This really wasn't a good approach after all.

Sigh... still waiting for my Legends of the Galactic Heroes simulator.

I don't regret giving them money either. It's got some good ideas, the race features are nicely varied, and it looks much prettier than a lot of 4X games.

Freaking ninjas :o

I didn't buy the game for the description.  I feel that the purchase had value because of the description.  But I digress.

This impending philosophical discussion on descriptions is going to give me a headache, I just know it. But I digress.

Come to think of it, a lot of 4X games these days seem to all have only one good part and screw up all the others. Someone should really just grab bits from here and there and fuse it all. There's really no shame in it and I'm sure a lot of people would rejoice.

I'm thinking something like:
1. The art style of Endless Space
2. Combat of Sword of the Stars
3. Fluidity and scale of Sins of a Solar Empire
4. AI and personality of Galactic Civilizations 2
5. Tech and weapons of Master of Orion 2

That would be truly beautiful.

Personally, now that you can input cards without having to actually dive down into the combat engine, I think they've really made combat much more enjoyable (and games a lot faster, to boot.) Let's hear it for being able to retreat without loading for a minute!

Nowadays I only actually go to the realtime combat if both fleets are of equal size and there's the chance I might need to switch to a retreat mid-battle.

While i do not regret buying the game (Admiral Edition too, woo!) the interception mechanics, borked technology tree and a few other issues (length.. or rather lack of it) keep me away from it, and probably will continue doing so.

Really liked the idea of non-controllable combat, kudos for that. Maybe the next game / 71 patches later i will pick it up again.

Is it worth recommending? If you like Aurora, or at least Space Empires 4.. Absolutely not, it's the exact opposite of these games.
If you like those other 4x games that end in a few hours, maybe give it a shot. Do not expect fireworks, this here is the "middle ground" game. Potential to be something, just.. not quite yet.
