OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG RIPPLES

...how do I manage to get excited for every tiny little thing that Toady posts on his dev log?

Still, ripples. Discuss.

...

Fine. Let's talk instead about the potential scientific application of projectiles being slowed by liquids. I think it could really be useful in some way we haven't thought of yet.

Ripples? What about:
Quote from: Devlog
and they can skip across the surface of liquids
Skipping carts! I can't wait for the first contest to see who can skip a minecart across the surface of an underground lake the most times.

If you set up the backdrop of an archery range as water then you could probably recover all of those bolts that miss without needing to have a 1 z-level drop. Also you could run a waterfall through a bunch of fortifications to provide a "wall" that turns into shootable fortifications at the flip of a lever.

where the hell did this idea of ripples come from?

he said they splash when they fall into the water. that just sounds to me that it makes a spot of mist.

I'm going to have to revisit my shooting whales with ballistae fort to test this, aren't I?

I agree. For some reason ripples interest me as well, however, they aren't mentioned. He says they make splashes, which to me indicates some water mist. Hopefully I'm wrong though, better water physics would be nice.

I figured it would just project some of the liquid into the tiles above it, which I guess would generate mist anyway as it falls. If so we could possibly weaponize this, or use it to "convince" dwarves to go for swimming practice.

Adamantine Minecart == Boat?

Can a cart skip a couple times, then land back on some tracks, and keep going?

air jumps are one thing, but Dwarven Hovercrafts (filled with caged eels) are a step beyond.

Don't tell anyone that you can see their shadows. If they hear you telling anyone, if you let them know that you know of them, they will get you.

The general consensus over in the mine cart thread seems to be "yes", as long as the cart has enough speed and you line everything up right.

I wonder...

Drawbridge + water = Dwarven wave pool?
Drawbridge + magma = Hell's playground, or dwarven water park?

EDIT:
Oh great, semi-derail (related to the minecart thread) anyone up for making a log flume ride? Or what about replicating the 'Mountain' rides of Disney World?
