I'm thinking 3 for the crossbow, 2 for the longbow. How much better would they be if I put 5 into each?

Well, the possible way to do this is with electro-memory meta-materials. It would work best on a crossbow, but the idea is you have a bow made of a material that can be bent or twisted and, when subjected to an electrical charge, will nearly instantaneously return to it's original shape.  This means you could have a crossbow that is easy to pull and load but fires with extremely great force.

Well,  arrows can vary in price since we haven't figured out that all out yet. As per the price of the bow, it depends on the size of the bow itself. Now, you could go with a fairly standard sized crossbow and bow, or you could go for a wrist mounted mini, repeating crossbow straight out of berserk, or even an enormous longbow like sniper crossbow. Same thing for your regular bow.

Obviously, larger means more expensive.
