Full round action: Charge at the retriever, if it's flat-footed Roland won't strike, only move. Power Attack 8 points (attack bonus +15, damage 1d10+24), designate the retriever as my shield block target (+2 AC = 31)
Frightful Presence: If the retriever has less levels or HD than 15, Will save (DC 25) or it is shaken for 1d6+8 rounds (–2 penalty on attack rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks.)
Worth mentioning: The area that I threaten is considered hard terrain for my enemies, so no 5ft steps, also tumble DC to move past Roland is increased by 15.

Beargutter also MOUNTAIN RAGES. He then walks 30 feet towards the strange thing, and readies the spear for a charge.

Ramiel moves due south ((since that's how I interpreted it)) 20 feet, then casts grease on the ground in front of the retriever. Silently holding his breath, he waits . . .

Roland CHARGES! He enters the greasy area and ... (Balance)[6 + 3] = 9 (Reflex)[4 + 11] = 15 slips but stays on his feet. He remains about 5 feet away from the retriever.

Frightful Presence : The retriever doesn't seem to be affected.

Tashy casts Freedom of Movement on self. She then moves 20 feet towards the summit.

Retriever

The retriever ponderously watches as an armored creature, and a  big creature rush in front of it. They were insignificant, merely obstacles in the way of the item.

The retriever first shoots an eyebeam as a free action. It uses its Fire Eyeray on Roland.

[13] : Roland is zapped and takes 36 fire damage.

It then takes a full attack action on Roland.
[31] vs 31 : The first claw attack is blocked square and parried over.
[23] vs 31 : The inept second attack is likewise blocked.
[16] vs 31 : Fumbling, the machine's third claw bites the ground.
[28] vs 31 : The final off-balance claw rakes Roland's armor to no effect.

The thing also bites:
[19] vs 31 : but the awkward position it takes doesn't help it penetrate Roland's impressive defenses.

Ramiel facepalms as Roland slips on the grease, dispelling it, sneaking 10 feet and instead recasting grease again this time directly under the retriever.

Beargutter takes a few steps, not turning his head to Roland, but clearly yelling to him. "He's mine." He stabbed at the Retriever, spinning his spear to slash the thing with enough force to kill any Commoner outright. He was clearly angry, but his actions remained placid.

Retributive amulet (Item): When the wearer takes damage from a melee weapon attack made with a natural or hand-held weapon, the damage is divided equally between the attacker and the target... if the damage is an odd number, the extra point goes to the attacker.
