My point was that if the OP needs supersoldiers really fast, why not just use a danger room?

This method won't give you supersoldiers, just competent ones.  They'll only be at skill level 6 or 7 in their weapon skill after this.

This is not definitive.  unless danger rooms have changed recently, they can gain weapon skill by parrying danger room attacks with their weapon.  I've seen dwarves come out of the danger room w/ legendary fighter/weapon skill, but have their shield user skill lower because they parry so often they don't block with their shield.

Want legendary dodgers from your danger-rooms? Send them in without weapon or shield. Legendary blockers? No weapons for you!

It's a bit of a chore if you want to round out your danger room training, but if you're into danger rooms, this tiny bit of micromanagement probably isn't going to stop you from getting legendary in everything.

Danger rooms can easily get you legendary+5. All you need to do is first make sure your soldiers have grabbed all of their gear. Summon them to the danger room and then lock the door behind them. Then pull the lever continually for about a month. No one will die of thirst or starvation during this time period even if they forgot to fill up their waterskin or backpack. A full month is plenty enough time for a dwarf to go from recruit to legendary+5 in pretty much everything. Shield user, dodge, weapon skill, fighter.

After a month of danger room time, that squad is done. Send them to the front lines and get them fighting things.

Which is why he was saying this method won't give you supersoldiers, cuz they're not in a dangerroom ;)

oh, I thought he was saying that danger rooms will give only 6/7 in weapon skill.  misread.

They always seem to get attached to their stupid wooden weapons, though. I prefer just using the regular weapons, with proportionally more goblins. I've got a field of cage traps set up to catch potential "trainers", and there's a nice steady flow of them. The wildlife has been helping out, too. Giant capybaras are surprisingly tough.

There's no point in making training weapons except for two reasons:

1) To make danger rooms.
2) To use goblins as pinatas.

Its easy to get a dwarf to switch gear even after naming a piece of gear. Just change their uniform and have it accept exact matches only. This is very helpful if your uniforms tend to be, well, uniform, so you mass produce a lot of weapons and armor all out of the same metal. If you're using a hodgepodge of stuff and rely on dwarves scavenging what armor or weapons they can find then this is not as helpful.

You can always take items out or circulation by forbidden them, building them into weapon traps, or chucking them into the atom smasher. You can also just sacrifice them to the kobolds. Dump them outside and leave them forbidden. If they're valuable kobolds will make off with them.

Artifacts can even be dumped by dumping the bin the artifacts are stored in.
