Hey - weird(ish) thing: Mystery Missing child
« on: April 12, 2012, 06:00:03 am »

So I'm missing a child - and no, I don' think I have any vampires because I've turned migrants off, and its been several years of the fort running.

Anyway I left my PC for a bit, and came back (so I have no idea what precisely happened.) And glancingly perused through my unit list - whereupon I noticed a dwarf child status was "caged" in yellow.

At this point instead of focusing on his name and identifying him, I gave a groan and set about trying to find the offending cage and let him out - I assumed he must have fallen into a cage trap (I don't know where or how - there weren't even any cave ins)

A little while later though - I can't find him in the caged creatures list.

On top of that, a little while later I get a "dwarf child is missing report",

Has anyone else had something similar happen to them? Is there any way I can find the missing people? I'm not averse to DF Hackery or the likes - Anything at all.

Because the mystery is now driving me nuts. I have a weird who dunnit/ who dun what? going on in my fort and I can't begin to understand how to unravel it.

Checked invaders - not there.

I actually zoomed into a cage, and found it in my stock piles when I first noticed it - there was a dwarf cage.

Oddly that cage now has no dwarf :s.

EDIT:

Ah - Solved it.

I had made a save just shortly before the discovery and reverted - did find out something new for all those people who want to get rid of kids wihtout tantrums.

So - the kid did get stuck in one of my own cages - I checked her thoughts and she was happy for having eaten a legendary meal, while being annoyed for getting caught in a cave in.

If I leave things be, she dies and all I get is a missing persons report. Since there are several cages stacked in the same place, I didn't check the one cage that had to be checked - which now shows a dwarf child corpse as its contents.

Have you tried selling it to merchants?

Jam a door with its corpse and let all the goblins in. Hey, nobody said it had to be a weapon against your enemies.

Yeah, cave-ins knock you unconscious, which removes trap immunity in most cases.
