There are restaurants that are unhealthy... but then there are ones where being as unhealthy as possible is the theme... Though you are right there is probably more then one.

Actually, I would say that its impossible for you to tell over internet distance whether the lollipop is alive or not. Simply because all lollipops you have encountered thus far have been inanimate doesn't mean that at no point in the future will you encounter one possessed of the spark of life. Its just extremely unlikely.

Goddamn, this argument comes up every time someone mentions Japan.  This topic is about craziest, most unique and memorable things to do while in Tokyo. If that includes strange things, awesome. This topic is not about whether or not Japan is an objectively strange place. It is definitely not about whether America is an objectively strange place. Srsly.

That sounds fun... do they exist in Japan right now, though? I've seen them in a picture in a science book thing by DK (Science of tha' Future!), and they seem OK.

They do, though they usually aren't as cyberpunkish or high-tech looking as the ones you occasionally see pictures of. Or it could be that those photos tend to be taken from inside the entrance.

In fact, they look sort of like people-sized cat carriers. Of course, it is a fairly good use of space, and with an internet connection, why would you care about not having a lot of space?

Thanks for the link! Actually, they look almost exactly the same, except the pictures I saw had round entrances and soft yellow light, along with a scrunched up businessman reading a newspaper Those look pretty good for their price, and ... Internet. That is all.

Heh, the images I recall (probably from textbooks as well) had a round tube with glowing red and purple lights behind the translucent walls and a red leather pad on the floor. But yeah, those aren't bad at all for the price, considering that 'normal' hotel rooms are essentially a bed and a bunch of useless space normal people internet-surfing shut-ins don't use.

Personally, I'd spend my time buying books, sampling food, and riding the trains.  Try some backwater ramen shops, things like that.

Yeah, I'll have plenty of time to do the low-key Japanese culture stuff outside of Tokyo. I'll ride trains and eat during the rest of the trip. I'll also be spending almost a week visiting a friend and her (Japanese) husband in Kumomoto doing cultural stuff. Tokyo is just so huge, I want to focus on Tokyo-specific rather than Japan-general stuff while there.

I'm not claustrophobic at all, but capsule hotels still fucking terrify me. They look like morgues.

Anyway, right now my plans include:
Tsukiji Fish Market - Worlds largest fish market. No idea why, but it's often cited as one of the most amazing things in the city.
Shibuya Crossing - Because Shibuya. Must see.
Touken (Japanese Sword Museum) - Because nodachi, also it's near Shibuya.
Japanese Pizza - Japanese Pizza
Stripclubs - Because someone told me they have stripclubs in Tokyo where (FORUM GUIDELINES VIOLATION)
