Magic the Gathering discussion thread!
« on: April 05, 2012, 03:51:02 pm »

I saw people making threads about things so I figured why not make a thread about one of my favorite games, Magic the Gathering? There have to be other magic players here, right?

So anyway, I was going bored through Gatherer (Wizards' card database) when I saw there was a Legends card called Angus Mackenzie as its actual name.
And then I saw on another card's flavor text that he had been murdered. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I was hyped to see that Avacyn, Angel of Hope had been revealed on the official forums. He's the centerpiece of the current story arc, so of course she's pretty awesome and will probably be with a pretty penny.

IIRC, she's something like

Avacyn, Angel of Hope 6WW

Creature- Angel

Flying, Vigilance

Avacyn and other permanents you control are indestructible.

8/8

So yeah, kind of crazy.

Other Games?
Herp Derp...
I dunno a move might be good but that is kinda for video games... so... uh...

Yeah, I saw the card too. A lot of people are bashing the card as "dies to removal" citing Black Sun's Zenith and then saying Elesh Norn is better. ...Uh, if removal is your concern...

I'm casual but I'm trying to make a FNM-playable colorless deck I'm pretty sure will be complete and utter trash.

Colorless? Wouldn't you be limited to the colorless artifact creatures from the Scars of Mirrodin block and the like? There's a few artifact creatures in Innistrad, but not alot.

Yeah, It's a Myr ramp deck with a few low cost warriors that protect me till I get Blightsteel Colossus, Steel Hellkite or the like.

Right now it's in crappy can't even beat another MYr unaugmented intro pack mode but I haven't tested it since I changed some of its weaknesses. Far too busy.

Well, there are no colorless instants, sorceries, or enchantments in standard, so I can't imagine your deck being very well rounded or having answers for the many plethora of problems that any opponent will throw your way.

It's loads of fun! Personally, I think it's superior to all other trading card games I've ever played (pokemon, yugioh, some minor others).

I liked the old editions much more though. It used to be a bit more immersive for me, nowadays it's more about powerful and fast combos.

Oh yeah it's tons of fun. Oh course it's all dependent on who you're playing with, but know that it's a very fun game that rewards creative thinking, attention to detail, and the ability to plan and prepre in your deckbuilding.

It can get a bit expensive though. I've probably put forth a few hundred dollars for my collection both in real life and in MTG:O and  my collection is tiny compared to alot of hardcore fans.

Someone stole all my cards years ago... I tried to get back into the game, but when I played it I used demonic hordes, lords of the pit, and such forth. When I tried playing again the cards were all called crap like curfew. I want to feel like a mighty wizard summoning up monsters from the bowels of hell, not a parent scolding their teenaged kid...

Somehow, that fills me more with dread than anticipation.  It's like being told that someone's exhuming your favorite grandparent and they're going to try to make her into a cyborg stripper.

Man curfew is awesome! One blue to bounce something you own and something an opponent owns. and No targeting for those with illusionary temperaments.

And it wasn't too long ago that you could summon up the closest things to Eldritch Abominations. That aspect is definitely not lacking.

Meh, Stasis + boomerang at the end of opponent's turn. Not to mention all the counterspells I could need. Or soul exchange + breeding pit + lord of the pit = 9/9 flying trample for what, 1 upkeep for the breeding pit, and 2B+2 for the soul exchange. Lots of people hated Forgotten Realms whaen it came out, but not me...

Ha ha! And I happen to have the card that did it!

Good ol' Lady Orca. You may be an absolutely terrible card, but we'll always have Benalia!

(I managed to get two whole packs of Legends back in the day. The next time I was at the store, they'd sold out and never restocked. Lady Orca was the only Legend I got from those two packs. I was even excited to have her at the time, because she was slightly bigger than Craw Wurm! And couldn't be Terrored!)

My brother made me his new deck guinea pig and burnt me out on the game.

Don't particularly care for it, though I'll play it if others want me to.

They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.
