Oh, wow I can't believe I didn't get that. I've got an Acer Aspire 3830TG, Intel Core i5-2419M CPU @ 2.3 GHz, 6 GB RAM, 64-bit, with Windows 7.

I thought maybe you meant box as in router, modem, etc...

I would have liked to, but livestream video and voice communications at the same time? I think my internet service provider, who is no doubt running the whole operation from the back of a broken down Reliant Robin somewhere lost on the Yorkshire moors, would have a heart attack.

I think mine is run out of an old mustang GT hoisted up a tree as a redneck deerstand, with an extension cord run to it.....

I can barely do netflix some nights.

Besides, dfterm has realtime chat built in.

It's up for debate right now.  I think the current idea is "we run this on a multiplayer server and someone records the thing.  Voice chat optionally encouraged."

I would likely be up for such a challenge as this. Live streaming/voice chat is no real problem for me (see internet speed post) I have some fairly decent (actually not too great but hey) recording software...

Why would anyone vote for me? I care about those little buggers, I find that my most motivational trait when it comes to dwarf fortress. I try rather hard to make the smilies live. I'm also pretty good with mechanics and traps.

I can see recording being an issue too, this is Dwarf Fortress after all, you're going to end up with eleventy billion hours of footage. What are you going to do with all that footage, upload it to youtube? Livestreaming exclusively would work but that raises more issues:

I don't know about anyone else but I like to play at my own pace, a year can take me several hours on a good day, sometimes it will be spread over multiple days. Even if the whole process were rushed for the sake of the people watching it would still drag on and on and be mind-bendingly dull at points such as the planning phases which would no doubt be extensive if the point is to show off what the "best and brightest" can pull off.

It just doesn't seem feasible as a live event. Succession forts work, and are so popular, because you get the basic run down of the most exciting events that happen cut down into bite size little portions that you can read whenever you feel like it. They're not a commitment to the viewer, only the people playing. I know it isn’t what everyone had in mind exactly, but a well written journal sprinkled with screenshots, ala every famous succession fort ever, is the equal of any video.

The "dwarves as endangered species" bit adds a bit more challenge.

It is a volcano embark, it has a brook in the far corner, has deep soil, and the cavern layer has not yet been breached.

I got the livestream part but... you can just "log in" to a DF map... That is amazing!

To everything kod said: You don't have to be present at all times we're streaming, and we'll probably only run the fort when enough of us are online. I'm planning on recording it, editing it to the best choicy bits, and upload that to youtube
