For the record, cave lobsters are caught by trapping, not fishing.  Not sure if that matters though, since bug 4505 reports that there's a similar problem with trapping vermin, related to there being not enough vermin in the caverns.

Swapped cave fish raws for Bullhead raws, left Subterranean_Water still no luck.

Come to think of it, the only cave lobsters I've ever seen were of the enormous, slavering, three-eyed kind.

Certainly you could argue that DF is a lot like The Sims, only... you know... with more vomit and decapitation.
If you launch a wooden mine cart towards the ocean at a sufficient speed, you can have your entire dwarf sail away in an ark.

I've fished surface fish from cavern waters before, but I think that's just because I messed up my map *slightly*

I've caught fish from a hole I channeled out in the caverns and then designated as a Pool zone.  The hole was an automatic dwarf foot washer, everyone had to path through it to leave the caverns.  Then I saw some dumbass dwarf fishing in it a week after I built it.  Then I saw him pull a fish out, and realized I was the dumbass.

This was 34.05 I think.  I don't remember what kind of fish it was.

Can't seem to designate artificial pools as fishing zones. Are you sure he took the fish from the pool?

I have been able to designate underground holes dug in an aquifer for fishing.  I have seen dwarves fishing from it, and have seen fish and turtles show up in the stockpiles, but I didn't see them being pulled out so they may have been caught elseswhere.

I was just digging holes in the cavern and filling them with water, aqufiers may be a different story. If you were able to designate it as a fishing hole and you never got the "There is nothing to catch..." it must have worked. If you were catching turtles then I can't think of anyway to get cavern fish with it.

Any water source in theory should be usable to fish. Fish don't exist as a Thing, save large fish like carp or whales which need cleverly killed and being butchered, whereas fish pulled up by fishing are always vermin and invisible.

Dwarves don't seem to recognize artificial water sources, they can't be designated as fishing zones.

I thought you designated the areas AROUND them as fishing zones.

I thought you designated the areas AROUND them as fishing zones.

When you designate a 3x1 strip of land by a pool as a fishing zone you generally get Fishing (3) indicating that there are 3 square which dwarves may use to fish. If you do that with an artificial pool you get Fishing (0) denoting either the squares are not valid or that the water source has no fish.
