Oh, I just realized I haven't gone over them, (we actually didn't get ANY parts from that mission so) but, any robot in that mission + the Nadesico (aside from the full metal panic units, for now), you can upgrade either HP, EN, Armor, Evasion, or Weapons. Don't worry too much about price, we have a pretty huge pile built up, and I also won't let it go over the amount we have set aside for boss borot.

And check, I'll upgrade Domon's weapons a bit.

Masato:Yeah, I guess this'll be goodbye for everyone, then. Still, it was a godsend to get stationed on a ship this comfortable. It's a real shame we have to leave it behind...
Shinobu:You're the only one bitching about having to leave, Masato. I gotta admit the food was top-notch, though. Way better then army fare.
Koji:You guys are really leaving, huh?
Sara:Yeah, we have to report to our operations division.
Shinobu:I heard you guys aren't part of the regular crew, either. Does that mean you're gonna leave the ship once we get to Yokosuka?

Sara:It was great meeting you guys, if only for a short period of time. We still have to take care of unit maintenance, though. Let's take care of that after we finish eating. Masato, Shinobu, is that all right with you?

The Nadesico arrives at Yokosuka

Prospector:Well, we're finally back home. Things have been hectic since we left for Mars, but all of you have performed most excellently!
Erina:That's right. The Nadesico is all right, too. I'm so relieved...

Ruri:The Nadesico has docked.
Minato:Engines stopped.
Yurika:Great job, everyone!

Akito:Yeah. We haven't had many chances to relax since we left for Mars...
Koji:We're finally back! Man, I never imagined things would turn out like they did.
Prospector:Calvina performed admirably, as well. We were right to ask for your assistance.

Calvina:Don't flatter me. I only did what was necessary to accomplish my job. I didn't do it just because you asked, anyway. That much I'm sure of.
Melua:Really?
Prospector:Fair enough. While I'm sure all of you have your own plans at this point, know that our company still has a need for you. We will continue to count on you from here on out.
Hyoma:Seriously, though, that was one heck of a trip! We're gonna return to the Connection soon and report to ol' Yotsuya.
Note, Yotsuya is the professor that made Combattler V.

Kosuke:Combattler will need to have its default equipment restocked soon, too.
Daisaku:That's for sure.
Chizuru:We won't be able to take it easy under those circumstances, though.
Ryoko:Definitely. I bet you guys are gonna have to do your best, too!

Ruri:If you're looking for them, they left as soon as the ship finished docking.

Prospector:I'm confident they went to report to the main office about what happened along the way. Captain, we must also make haste to file our report.

Akito:Can't we all just stay here as the Nadesico's crew?

Juzo:Like we said, we're going back to the Nanbara Connection.
Koji:Sayaka and I will be heading back to the Photon Power Labs. We were away for far too long, and I doubt that bastardly Dr. Hell has been behaving himself...
As far as made up words go, bastardly is one of the better ones. Also Doctor hell is the main villan in the Mazinger Series.

Sayaka:Agreed. I heard everyone's all right, but I want to see Dad!
Prospector:All right, then. Please send my regards to Yumi and Prof. Yotsuya.
Yurika:The combined firepower of Mazinger and Combattler was a big help! Oh, and before I forget, what are the Cyber-Beast Force and Domon going to do?
Masato:I wonder. Things really took a turn for the wierd...
Sara:To tell you the truth, we should have said farewell to this ship a while ago, but we were told to wait in Yokosuka with the rest of the Nadesico's crew. I wonder if that means they're going to send us on another mission...?
Yurika:Another mission? What do you think it'll be?
Shinobu:No idea. For now, I think we're to remain on the Nadesico. Dammit, old man Hazuki is definitely playing with our heads! I wonder why we put up with him...
Ryo:Give it up, Shinobu. Your simple mind just can't comprehend the complexity of our situation.

Prospector: It seems our company and your organization have opened talks. We'll let you know if anything comes out of it, later.
Domon:As for me...
Rain:(Oh, Domon... You're still thinking of your master, along with Chibodee and the others...) Well, we still have to pursue the Devil Gundam, but we don't know where it's hidden right now.
Yurika:In that case, you can tag along with us until you find it! If you do, I'm sure we'll get word on it thanks to the military and Nergal's combined information networks. Does that work for you?
Prospector:Domon will add to our firepower, and Rain's medical and mechanical skills should prove quite useful, as well. I see no reason to refuse.
Uribatake:Damn straight! You've been a big help in the hangar, girl!
Rain:Sorry for the trouble... We'll try to stay out of your way. Hey, Domon!
Domon:...I have no interest in owing anything to you people. You got that? The first one to say "thanks" gets a punch in the face. I can get some much-needed training in that way... It'll be like killing two birds with one stone. (Yes... And after I defeat the Devil Gundam, I will bring back Master with my own hands!)

We leave the Nadesico for a while, and move over to the Photon Power Labs with Koji and Sayaka

Koji:... Things are that bad on Earth, huh?





Dr. Yumi is NOT the person that made Mazinger Z, for once, but he's still a giant robot professor guy. Also a Mazinger series character.Also the father of Sayaka.

 Sayaka: It's not like we have a choice in times like these...
 Koji:Yeah... Well, I guess it's nice that the Federation's helping out, but they aren't capable of much. What's Dr. Hell been up to?
 Dr. Yumi:When the surface became engulfed in chaos, he increased his activity. Even as we speak, Tetsuya is supporting the army against the Mechabeasts.
 Koji:Seriously, Professor?! Hey, you're right! Tetsuya and the others aren't here! We're going, too!
 Dr. Yumi:No, you should all get some rest for the time being.
 Sayaka:Yeah, Koji... We've been gone for a long time, so let's relax and do some shopping!
 Koji:Buy Sayaka...!
 
 
 There's our man. For the uninformed, we will be focusing on Boss's robot in this playthrough, mostly. More on it when it shows up. From the Mazinger series.
 
 Sayaka:Well, if it isn't Boss... You don't seem to be any worse for wear.
 Koji:What the hell are you doing here?!
 Boss:Screw you, Kabuto! I'll have you know I've been VERY busy taking down Mechabeasts and aliens during your long absence... And I did it all while you and Sayaka were away. See?! I can do ust fine without you! There was no need for you to come back!

 Sayaka:By the way, about the cakes and chocolate we bought for Melua... She ate all of them right then and there! You should have seen the look on her face. Katia, Calvina and the others loved what we bought them, too!
 Koji:Those girls were in those bastards' hands ever since they were little, and all they've done is fight since they escaped. I bet they're just glad to have a chance to relax. It sure makes me feel good knowing that we helped 'em escape.
 Sayaka:Oh, hello, Dad!
 Dr. Yumi:How was the Nadesico, Sayaka?
 Sayaka:They said the repairs were aleady finished. Since Nergal entered into an assistance pact with the UEFA, the Nadesico is now officially under military control. I think the military may have mistakenly thought that Bellzelute and the CBF would be under Nergal's wing, though.
 Koji:Yeah, still. The Nadesico, under military control? Not the best turn of events, if you ask me.
 
 
 Tetsuya here is pretty rad. He's a character from Great Mazinger, and Mazinkaiser. Not mazinger Z.
 
 
 
 Lori here is also a Mazinger character. I think she's a background character in all of them except maaaaybe great mazinger.
 
 Tetsuya:Those sly bastards! Jun, how's Great Mazinger?!
 
 
 Jun is the Sayaka to Tetsuya's Koji. Great Mazinger and Mazinkaiser.
 
 Koji:*chuckle* That makes this our call, Tetsuya. I'll be departing in Mazinger Z, Professor!
 Dr. Yumi:Koji, we still don't know why they surfaced near Atami. Please, be careful.
 Koji:Fine, sure, whatever! Rocket Punch this, Breast Fire that... ...Piece of cake!
 Sayaka:Wait up, Koji! Boss, let's go too!
 Boss:Yeah! Tetsuya, you can relax. Leave the rest to us!
 Tetsuya:Huh, as long as you don't get taken down while we're on break...
 
 
 Loru is the identical sister of Lori, and shows up everywhere she does mostly. Mazinger Z and Mazinkaiser.
 
 Koji:Just leave it to me, Loru! Heheh... It's been a while since I got to make my big entrance!
 Sayaka:Stop acting all lovestruck over Ms. Loru, you jerk! Hmph!

Explosions erupt from a nearby town!



Ashura here is from Mazinger Z, and is kind've the "field general" of Dr. Hell's armies. He was also made from the bodies of two seperate people from an ancient civilization called Mycenae, which is incidentally where most of the giant robot designs in mazinger come from. Yes, the giant robots in Mazinger are greecian. Mazinger is actually supposed to be similar to Zeus, if I recall. But that's beside the point, because the two bodies were seperate genders. And also before they died, they were husband and wife. So Ashura is two genders, and indeed, two people at once. They don't really play up that aspect, but it's there. It's honestly mostly an excuse in the show for him to talk in two voices at once.

Mazinger, Boss Borot, and Aphrodite A appear!

(Side note, Fire wars is the theme for the collective "mazinger army", IE any robot from Mazinger. More specific themes will be used with specific robots show up, but fire wars is the only mazinger music actually in the game.)

Koji:Hold it, Baron Ashura! Now that I'm back, your evil schemes are stoppin' dead in their tracks! Gimme your best shot, Mechabeasts!
Ashura:Heheheheh! THERE you are Koji Kabuto! I didn't think this operation to lure you out would work, but I'm not going to complain...
Boss:Yeah! Today, we're gonna kick your transgendered butt!
Ashura:Koji Kabuto and Sayaka Yumi... I knew you survived your return from Mars, but I will have your life for daring to obstruct the path of Dr. Hell!
Koji:You'll have my life? Listen, I know I've told you to get a life before, but that's not what I meant!
*laughtrack*

Seriously, you can do better then that.

Sayaka:Prepare yourself, Baron Ashura!
Boss:H-How dare that two-faced sonuvabitch ignore me! Unforgivable!
Don't worry boss, you'll get some respect this time. Or it'll crash and burn, but I'm gonna try.

That's the end of the dialogue, so let's just go over Boss Borot now, the focus of our upgrades through this LP. (I'll still allow other upgrades, but in general I will at least be upgrading boss one pip a stage.) Boss Borot is a joke robot. His only redeeming quality is that it only takes 10 funds to repair. He has the armor of a real robot (Much worse, actually) and the dodging of a super, and his attacks, while they aren't terrible, aren't amazing either. None of them use energy, all are melee, and he can't fly, so he can't hit flying enemies, unless we equip him with a flight drive, which we probably will, because he has litterally no other use for energy. Most of his spirits are overpriced for what they are. In series, his robot is litterally made of scrap metal. His best attack, while it's pretty awesome, involves killing himself. So we will be doing just that. I'm gonna try to self destruct boss borot once a stage. I will keep a counter. And maybe if boss does well enough I'll do something neat at the end of the game. Time will tell.

TURN ONE!



Alrighty, three units, only one of them worth a damn at this point in time, versus like 10 heavy grunts (Grunts with more HP and armor then evasion, typically they come from super robot serieses like Mazinger). Even for Mazinger, this might be a bit much. We'll do what we can. The first step is to keep them bunched up, mostly for bosses and aphrodite's sake.

Alright, let's take a look at what boss can do. BOROT CHAIN ATTACK GOOOOOO!











2000 something damage. Not bad. Also of note is that Boss Borot can repair and resupply. Koji blasts another Mechabeast, and Sayaka repairs him.

Unfortunatly for them, all of them is two of them. I missed the first screenshots, and the second one died. This is going very well.

TURN FOUR!

Boss Borot starts us off with




Well, the same thing. I'm not quite brave enough yet to use anything other then his best attack, because if he doesn't finish it off he'll probably get cut in half at least on the counterattack. But he does. Boss's amazing show of bravado activates Mazinpower for Mazinger. Which he immediately uses to great effect.




And that ends our turn.

Once more, boss will lead us off with BOROT IRON FIST!







Boss Borot is the best. The pilots gain a level from that. Mazinger finishes off the other guy in follow up. Now it's just Ashura in his Ghoul.

Ashura makes contact. He can't be too bad, right? He missed, so no. (Accidentally skipped the attack scene, damnit, luckily he's not very fancy. Just flies overhead and drops bombs.) This failed attack provokes a monologue for some reason.

Ashura:Heheheheh.... Now! Rise, Mechabeasts!

A lone garuda spawns at the far end of the map.

Koji:There are more?!

Koji is horrified at the prospect of a single garuda for some reason.

Sayaka:Koji, leave it to me!
Koji:Be careful, Sayaka!
Sayaka:Here I come!

Another spawns nearby.

Sayaka:Huh? ore of-?!

I dunno, I think Sayaka could handle both of them, if only barely. Now if it were boss, we'd be in trouble.

Boss:Sayaka,watch out!






Sayaka:Eeeeeeek?!

The other mechabeast approaches and immobilizes the aphrodite A!

Sayaka:Ugh, damn... Let go!

A small explosion emerges from the aphrodite A!

Sayaka:Agh?!
Koji:Sayaka?!
Boss:Dammit, what're you doin' to Sayaka?!
Ashura:Haahahaahahah! Cease your resistance, Koji Kabuto, or I will slay Sayaka Yumi myself! If you want to save her, then bow to my will!
Koji:Ugh...
Boss:W-What are you doing, Kabutoooooooo?!
Ashura:Sooo... What is your decision?
Koji:Fine... But please! Spare Sayaka!
Boss:K-Kabutooooo!
Sayaka:Ungh... N-No, Koji... I'm fine! You have to-
Ashura:Grrr, shut up!

Another small ball of flame erupts from the Aphrodite A

Sayaka:Eeeeeek!
Koji:Stop! Please, stop this, Baron Ashura! I'm not resisting!
Ashura:Hahah, fine! Defeating you was far too easy... No amusement at all. I will claim your Mazinger Z as my own, and you will be punished by Dr. Hell himself!

The Ghoul approaches and loads the Mazinger Z onto it!

Ashura:Bound and helpless, just as I've always desired... ...Hahaha! Dr. Hell will be overjoyed!
Koji:Ugh... You promised, Baron Ashura! Let Sayaka go!
Ashura:Idiot! Do it Mechabeasts! Destroy Aphrodite A! Bwahahahahaahahah!
Koji:What?! Dammit, Baron Ashura... You coward!
Boss:Sayakaaaaaaa!

Great mazinger appears!



Koji:Tetsuya?!
Ashura:That's... You're here already, Great Mazinger?! Curse you!
Tetsuya:That's right... The Great Hero has arrived! Thunder Breeeeeeaaaaaak!

He one shots one of the mechabeasts holding aprhodite A captive.

Ashura:Damn you, Tetsuya Tsurugi! How dare you get in my way again?! Mechabeasts, hurry! Kill Sayaka Yumi!

And an old friend also appears.

Hyoma:That's not going to happen! Big Blast!

Combattler finishes off the other mechabeast!

Ashura:Curses... Combattler V, too?!
Hyoma:Heh, this is it for you, Baron Ashura!
Chizuru:Sayaka, are you all right?!
Sayaka:I-I'm fine. But, Mazinger Z and Koji are...
Tetsuya:That's... Damn! Kabuto, can't you escape?!
Koji:No! I'm compeletely locked up in here! I can't even use a Rocket Punch!

The Nadesico appears. The cavalry has arrived!

Boss:Whoa?! W-What's that!
Sayaka: Oh... The Nadesico, too? They're friends, Boss. They've come to help us!
Yurika:Hey, everybodyyyyy! Are you all right?! Now that we're here, you can relax! Let's just blow all these bad guys away! Ruri, put the Gravity Blast on standby! Target the flying enemy fortress!
Ruri:Captain, they've captured Mazinger Z. I'm afraid you can't shoot them down.
Yurika:that's no problem for us! We'll just... Huuuuuhhhh?!
Festenia:They caught Koji?!
Calvina:Well, that's unfortunate.
Erina:What's that boy doing?! How could he let them capture him?!
Akito:There's no way he would get taken down just like that... What happened?!
Sayaka: They took me hostage, so... Koji had to...
Akatsuki:He let himself get taken by the enemy? My, my... Naive as ever.
Akatsuki is a dick, as always.

Yurika:I knew it! Taking hostages... That's totally bad guy behavior! Right?!

The silly looking fellow here is an Iron Mask, which is a generic grunt on Dr. Hell's side.

Ashura:Urrrrrgh... So, that's the Nadesico?! Rrrrrghhhh! We'll have to settle for capturing Mazinger Z and Koji Kabuto. Ghoul, retreat!
Iron Mask:Yes, sir!
Hyoma:Argh! Hold up, Baron Ashura!
Ryoko:Hey Kabuto, can't you get your ass outta there?!
NO HE'S CHAINED UP PAY ATTENTION TO THE PLOT DAMN

Akito:Koji, you can do it!
Koji:Damn! Even though they all came for me, I'm still stuck in here...
Tetsuya:Kabuto... I hate to say this, but you'll have to abandon Mazinger. We'll attack the Ghoul and stop it. Take this opportunity to escape in the Pilder!
Note, the Pilder is a little flying jet thing that docks into Mazinger Z's head and acts as a cockpit. The great mazinger's equivelent is the "brain condor".

Koji:Abandon Mazinger?! Don't even joke about that!
Sayaka:Koji, Tetsuya is right! At this rate, you're going to die!
Koji:Mazinger Z and I... We're one! I'm not gonna just leave Z to die! Dammit! Move, Z! Mazinger Z, I'm begging you... Please, MOVE!
Ashura:Hahahaha! Go, Mechabeasts!

Tetsuya:Tch! They still had that many left?!
Ashura:You'll just have to take them on yourself! Hahahahaha!

The ghoul leaves the battlefield.

Ruri:...Enemy flying fortress has fled the combat zone. They took Mazinger Z with them.
Inez:Well, well...
Tetsuya:Kabutoooooooo!
Hyoma:W-What are we going to do?!
Shinobu:Enough with the drama! We gotta smash those Mechabeasts and chase after 'em!

Calvina:There's no other way, eh? Captain, we're going too.
That's also a pretty solid response.

Yurika:Yes! Annihilate the Mechabeasts and save Koji!
Chizuru:Captain, Sayaka is unable to fight, as well. Please recover her.
Yurika:Understood. Minato, go ahead!

ANYWAY, continuing with the enemy phase, we still have Boss Borot, have gained our regulars, and gained Great Mazinger which we'll go over in a few. Unfortunately, since Mazinger and Sayaka have left the field, Boss Borot has lost his cover. I'm gonna just defend with him and hope he holds out. Luckily at this early stage, he only takes about 800 damage from a defended attack, so he should be fine.

TURN SIX!



Luckily boss has guts, and can heal his damage. ALL HAIL BOSS. We move Great Mazinger and Combattler down to start. The Nadesico crew moves straight down the street. We also cast alert, wall, and fury (next attack is a guarenteed critical) on boss, in an attempt to get a kill on this next attack, and prime him for detonation. LET'S SEE HOW IT GOES









No. Not even close. Oh well. Crits aren't very powerful in super robot wars.

More enemies continue to hammer boss borot. But he's got the will for self destruct. Can he pull it off before he gets destroyed?!

TURN SEVEN!

Let's start this off by taking a look at great mazinger.




He also has one more attack called "Great Booster" that's at a 5200 attack rating, but only has one ammo. Great Mazinger is in essence a better Mazinger Z, which is good considering we lost him. I think Great Mazinger may not be quite as sturdy as Mazinger Z, but if he isn't it's not by much. Great Mazinger can also fly, as opposed to Mazinger Z. Let's start off with a THUNDER BREAK! His best attack.
















Not bad. The fact that thunder break is basically a stronger, long range breast fire adds a lot to his offensive capabilities, even if it's not post movement.




That somehow didn't kill him. Oh well. We need to get the Nadesico gang up to support Great Mazinger and Combattler V, because I'm not sure how long they can hold out against a mob of that size. Luckily they're pretty close.

Enemies trudge towards our army, and try to attack Combattler V again. Even for this game's kind've streaky AI, this is really wierd. Maybe they're jealous. One attacks Dancougar from out of his range...



And another one gets totally punked by Ryoko.




A counter activation and a dodge. Nice. A doublas tries to correct this amazing fuck up by the first one, and...






Well, he took less damage at least, I guess. Also, that missle attack is an aesti air frame attack, missle pod. The weakest one, but it has nice range at 2-6. Next up, a rare instance of the wild V laser taking down it's prey.







After this point combattler is getting pretty banged up, so I defend all future attacks for him. After this the rest decide to go after the Nadesico, and almost universally get one shotted by it. This gets the nadesico pilots a level. Jun gets Trust out of it. Never bad having another healer onboard. More Nadesico beatings later, and their phase ends.

TURN EIGHT!

Domon starts us off by killing another Doublas with his beam sword. Still not in super mode, this is kind've his main issue. Calvina and Tetsuya follow suit. Then combattler does what he does best. Combo attacks.




Dancouga tries to finish off another Doublas and doesn't quite make it. Aestis attack some grunts in front of the Nadesico, forming up in hopes of attracting more into the Nadesico's MAP attack.

ENEMY PHASE

To start off, Combattler manages to kill another enemy with V laser, somehow, and Great Mazinger does his best Emperor Palpatine impression on a nearby Doublas.








Luckily he is infinitely more deadly. Domon is very impressed and activates super mode in response. Another load of grunts try to take down the Nadesico and mostly get one shotted because they are chumps. Domon also manages to get hit twice at a 25% chance to get hit. He's been having a rough few days. And to end their phase on another poor note, a doublas attacks combattler in range of Big Blast again. I really wish that thing had more then 3 ammo.




Hurrah!

TURN NINE!

The formation proved to be a failurem, as not only did it not attrct anyone, but it managed to kill everyone in range of the MAP. Oh well. The Nadesico one shots another generic grunt, when a transmission occurs!

Loru:Tetsuya, do you copy? We detected the Pilder escaping from Baron Ashura's Ghoul, but we think it was attacked. We haven't detected any movement from it since.
Tetsuya:What?! That Kabuto...!
Loru:Maybe he was shot down? We have to hurry and dispose of those mechabeasts! We'll begin our search afterwards!

So, Koji got shot down maybe. Huh. Bad news to be certain. We'll clean this stuff up and be off then. Calvina is more then happy to oblige with an O Rifle N.

Combattler follows up by pasting a random chump. I don't show the animation because while I love combattler, we've seen a lot of it lately. The Aestivalis squadron follows up and takes out all but the last unit. Which Domon will be happy to finish in style.









Still not quite one shotting them, but gettin close enough. Domon is kind've the master of finishing stages, due to his high will ratings for his decent attacks, and the amount of force they can put out if upgraded.

Ruri:All enemies annihilated. There are no units remaining.

Kinda makes me want to make a list of the top: 10 (In no order) of "Stuff going down" in anime.

Unfortunately I'd just have to include Pokemon's Guitar changing dirrection theme. You just knew a battle was getting awsome when you heard that music. Hmm now that I think about it a LOT of animes had really awsome "Turn about" themes.

That's Shiro, Koji's little brother. In Great Mazinger, I think, he has his own robot. If I recall it uses baseball bats and baseballs as a weapon. It's comparable to boss borot in effectiveness. I'm not joking.

Note, battle machines are the component parts of Combattler V. They're small, prolly no bigger then large cars or fighter jets, and aren't featured in this game terribly much. Some games like Super Robot Wars Alpha Gaiden have them as seperate units, and they aren't terribly amazing. But the thought is nice.

Ashura:W-Who are they?
Dr. Hell:A secret soceity... I don't know their goals, but they're definitely dangerous, and in posesion of a powerful robot army. 15 years ago, they were betrayed by the person who built their robotic weapons, Masaki Kihara, and have lay dormant in the soil ever since. However, they have recently shown signs of activity once more.
Tekkoryu isn't Mazinger stuff, it's Hades Project Zeorymer stuff. We'll get to them soon.

Ashura:I see... So you want me to use them to achieve our goals?
Dr. Hell:Precisely. Go forth and conquer, Ashura!
Ashura:Yes, sire! Leave it to me!
