MC Forge is also compatible with 1.2.5.

Which should kinda be redundant since BC which is ready for 1.2.5 is dependent on it.

I noticed a AWESOMELY GREAT mod that is missing here.
Its called single player commands.
Gives you a metric fuckton of commands, consisting of server admin commands and much, much, much, much much much much more.
(like spawning mobs, giving yourself items by typing an item name, worldeedit(!) and more stuff like that, its really usefull. also, a fly command.

Its not that special. You can do most of that better with NEI.

Singleplayer commands also lacks: any and all UI which makes it inferior to TMI/NEI by quite a bit.

...but it also lets you go up blocks without jumping and change the friction of any block to make it as slippery as ice or even make you go faster as you stand on it (like the quick sand from the Aether mod)

It also has the ability to give you stuff with a specific damage value, something which TMI lacks (not sure about NEI, haven't installed it).

WHY CAN'T I HOLD ALL THIS TAINT

Oh god

Oh GOD

So I started in this awesome jungle, next to a chasm, and my first action was to build a bridge over it.  Flash forwards a few RL days later, I'm wandering through this hugely tainted jungle far from home...and find my bridge.  D:

The whole chasm is overgrown.  The caves are starting to get overgrown.  Some of those caves lead to my house.  The jungle itself is full of HUGE trees and it's spreading everywhere; I've been setting the place on fire and it's not helping.  I built a retaining wall out of cobblestone and it ignored it.  I got a dawn totem and it's clearing, like...a five-square-wide area, it's not even holding back the tide.

I can see the tainted jungle from the roof of my house now...and I don't even have the view distance on the farthest setting.

I'm scared.  ;_;

Cut and run. Let the area unload, and don't return until you've prepared better. Collect your supplies, your equipment and just get out. Travel, search out a smaller taint patch to practice on. Work on your methods, your supplies. You're going to need more totems... lots.... more... totems. And plenty of condensers and the proper crystals. However, if you haven't collected many taint related research materials, this might be a good chance to grab an axe of the stream or two and just go wild. Just don't take too long.

Or, if the taint is a bunch of blocks (I have yet to try Thaumcraft, darn 1.2.5 mods conflicting with each other), use MCEdit?

Note that taint spreads underground as well, but dawn totems (in sufficient numbers) can do serious damage to the ambient taint levels.
Go wild with the things inside the tainted area, drop a few hidden in the walls of your house and pray.
Also taint affects chunks, not individual blocks.
