Hi!

I find it interesting to see which problems get a lot of votes. For instance, the high re-animation speed of undead being so popular kind of surprises me. At least for fortress mode, this is a bug that requires you to embark in an evil biome and/or close to a necromancer lair, so it is not experienced by all players.

My personal vote goes to the excessive spreading of stagnant water in streams and rivers as it does not make sense in this scale and is a major risk for any fortress except maybe for the glacial ones (I am aware that it is easily evaded in adventure mode by drinking coverage, but I don't know of any easy countermeasure in fortress mode).

Blood spatter spreading would also be high on my list, but that one is currently subdued via the init option, so it can wait.

Yours,

Embarking in most terrifying and dangerous lands is natural for proper dwarf. Benign lands are for elves.
With husks and zombies, its perfect land for some challenge when you get bored with usual stuff, so I made all my recent forts there. But with current reanimation rate its a bit beyond playable, so while I still want some significant challenge, I want some chances to actually overcome it as well.

I agree, always look for more challenging places :D

I would LOVE an evil biome with a necromancier tower next to my fort, could not gen any world that had that and deep and shallow metals so far.

I can't wait for Toady to finish mine-carts and get back to work on the more major bugs, like the ones in this thread.

OK, I have to reload the save.
There was a bit of a problem regarding flashfreezing, a ballistae, and a barrel of dwarven ale. Gonna fix it up.

I have to agree...features are great...but some of these bugs are downright game breaking...or at least so distracting that I don't care about the new features because I am to busy trying to plan around avoiding bugs =/

My personal peeve is with the large gems, and artifact gem items, not going to stockpiles.  There are several deserving bugs on the list, but that one should be so easy to fix (adding gem to the material lists) that I don't understand why it is still present.  It is noteworthy that large glass gems do go to the proper stockpile, so it is specifically the mineral gem material that is the problem.

I'm in the bufixes>new features camp too. Minecarts sound amazing but I'd like the important bugs to be squashed first.

Yeah, clay is currently in the same boat as large gems:

Bug #5530: Clay stockpile option disappears

They're even listed as related items in the bug tracker:

Bug #4430: Large gems not moved to stockpile

Seems like a easy little fix.

My current trading post is littered with clay and large gems due to these bugs.  Only a minor annoyance though.

Perhaps we need another thread for "most wanted easy fixes"???

It may hard to decide what is hard to fix. Maybe DF code is example of spaghetti code and fixing clay bug requires rewriting half of the game?

I would somehow doubt that, unless Toady did something very, very weird when he wrote the code for stockpiles that somehow wrote himself into a corner where he couldn't expand it any more.

I mean, when I made my glazes mod, I just told the game that glaze powders stockpile as "bone powder" simply because that was a category that had nothing else in it in Fortress Mode, so it was an empty slot to put everything in.

You might be able to do the same thing with clay, I believe - Toady probably just has that token that says "IS_STONE" and then "NO_STONE_STOCKPILE" set on the clay boulder.  Taking away that NO_STONE_STOCKPILE would make it count as a stone.

Technically not a bug but a usability issue.  Could lack of sorting and filtering on lists be added to this list somehow?  It would be very useful to be able to view and filter *all* lists of things - dwarfs, items, etc - so that it's a lot easier to find something.  One of the most annoying things for me about DF is that sometimes I have to look through lists several times before finding the one thing I want.

"U"nits screen definitely needs a better way of finding dwarfs.
Replace Noble could do too - this is sorted by skills, but sometimes you just want a named dwarf.
z-Animals, Kitchen: maybe?
z-Stone: only 2 screens, not much of a problem
z-Stocks: definitely, and better grouping too, so that I can see, e.g. how many loincloths I've got in total, oh and while I'm in here: split boxes and bags!!!!! Why can't I have a separate Box stockpile and a separate Bag stockpile??? Split in Build Container as well: let's have Build Box and Build Bag.
z-Health: maybe
Military squad selection needs sort/filter as well.

You put it quite well. These features are working as currently intended, and thus are not buggy. Changes to them have been suggested, and they are also covered by some ESV items.

I think we need a thread that lists the easy fixes/changes in the first place. Cause there isn't a good list anywhere. Some easy fixes are in eternal suggestions, some have been mentioned in various suggestion threads, but there is no master list.
