Adding babies to the giant desert scorpion creature
« on: March 29, 2012, 08:22:16 am »

I feel like i'm missing something. It can't be as easy as just adding "[CHILD:3][GENERAL_CHILD_NAME:tigerman cub:tigerman cubs]".

It is unless you want them to lay eggs.

I added [TRAINABLE] as well.

My plan is to have a desert dwarf fort that survives mainly by its taming of exceptionally dangerous giant desert scorpions.

It is. Technically you don't even need the GENERAL_CHILD_NAME.

My plan is to have a desert dwarf fort that survives mainly by its taming of exceptionally dangerous giant desert scorpions.

Then a creature made of metal or rock happens to attack your fort, and will eat your 50 war GDS for it's breakfast without damage...

Well it may be a good idea to make "Giant Desert Scorpion Hatchling" rather than "Tigerman Cub". :P

I think it's the way towns develop now. In the beginning, people move into a town. Then they start producing tables, which results in more and more tables. Soon tables represent a significant portion of the population, they start lobbying for new laws and regulations, putting people to greater and greater disadvantage...

That's probably due to animal-men occupying all the creature slots, as usual.

is there a utility that lets me just check/uncheck various creatures to remove them from the raws?  Doing that for each update sounds like it would take awhile.

While adding magma to anything will make it dwarfy, adding the word "magma" to your post does not necessarily make it funny.

I did this. I really like the desert forts. a good idea is to raise the frequency of the scorpions, because as they are, they are pretty rare. so you wont be able to support a fort on them alone. other than that, they make good killing machines, mix them with dogs and they make decent guards, and using them in general is fun. just be careful as training them will be dangerous. if they revert to a wild state, they will start stinging dwarves. have fun with it dude, desert scorpion forts are cool and fun, and sometimes !!FUN!!

they are very rare. their frequency is only 5 after all. this means that they show up pretty rarely, youll see one or two maybe every 4 or 5 years if your lucky. raise the frequency to something like... 30. at thirty I see them every other year or two, but they aren't so common as to be game breaking. even at 30 I still dont see them at all. if you love your sanity, do not raise it to 100. just go with 30 or 40.

The [UBIQUITOUS] tag also does a lot for making sure you see some. I'm pretty sure that without it, you can get biomes that just don't have any population of GDS.

the wiki has "Creature will occur in every region with the correct biome. Does not apply to evil/good tags" for the [UBIQUITOUS] token
(it's in the "creature token" page)

Ubiquitous ? They're giant DESERT scorpions for something, you know...

Anyways, just remove the animals and animal men you feel are useless. Deserts are supposed to have camels, buzzards and vultures all the time, and the odd GDS once per year or less.
