Nobody is chopping wood?
« on: March 25, 2012, 10:51:27 am »

So, I have lots of wooden training axes sitting in my stockpiles...but none of my five woodcutters will do anything - they all just sit around with no job.  This is the newest release (0.34.06), and I didn't see any notes on not allowing wooden axes for woodcutting anymore.  Is this a bug?  All dwarfs in question have the woodcutter labor enabled, trees are designated for cutting just like always, and axes are sitting in a stockpile (not forbidden).  Any suggestions?

Check your militia, maybe the axes have been claimed by Dwarfs told to "indiv choice, melee" or "Individual choice, weapon."

try building something there to see if they can actually reach the area. I sometimes mess up with ramps, so it's a possibility.

Do they also have mining enabled?

Having the woodcutting labour enabled automatically disables mining and hunting

Did you enable woodcutting with Dwarf Therapist? I had this issue the other day. For some reason setting the labor with DT would not cause the dwarves to recognize it.

What I did to fix it was to disable the labor using the in-game menus, exit from the menus and unpause a moment (unsure if this step was necessary), then re-enable woodcutting using in-game menus. My dwarves went on to happily chop wood after.

I was using training axes in the scenario detailed above, so yes.
