Five convicted murders and its not enough for an execution

I have two vampires in my fortress that are running around killing people and each time vie convicted them they just get days in prison and then go on killing after they've done there time.  Why won't my worthless captain of guard execute them?  I've tried bringing the fuckers to an atom smasher by putting a burrow under it but they won't go to the burrow.  Either way I want the satisfaction of justice stabbing them in there vampire faces.
Whys this happening?

FurryZergling recently explained to me that burrows don't keep your dwarves in a certain area, instead they only accept jobs from inside that zone. If you form a vampire squad you can station them under the atom smasher, although I find its easier to just seal them up in the walls to live out the rest of eternity.

yup. draft them into the military and station them in a room. Burrows don't really work that way

Should have no trouble executing your vampires.

While adding magma to anything will make it dwarfy, adding the word "magma" to your post does not necessarily make it funny.

one crime gives prison.
more than one death gives death.
so instead of immediately imprisoning them wait for more murders to stack, accuse always the same dorf and it should result into a beating/death (or you can remove prisons resulting in beating time from the captain guard, which, if armed, will use the weapon, or it's prison time)

Wall them in their cells, next time they get caught?
Then find a way to bring some magma in said cell. Feels just like an "official" execution, and a proper one for a vampire (Burn, leech, BURN!)

Don't forget that they can come back as ghosts when you destroy the bodies.

The best solution is to just wall them in and let them be.

Personally, I would wall them up in a room with fortifications and a draw bridge and throw in captured goblins to train them on. If the goblins manage to kill the vamp, the crossbow dwarfs can then shoot the goblin.

No, actually dwarves will mill in burrows and will usually only leave if their pathing gets interrupted by say 7/7 water. Hungry or thirsty does not make them leave. It does take time for them to get into the burrow. Make a burrow and assign 10 dwarves to it manually through the burrow menu. You'll see for yourself. If you make a burrow somewhere that's inaccessible, the dwarf assigned to that burrow will stand right where they are and not move or do anything until access is made.

Not true.

I've had a vampire rack up three kills before I worked out who it was, and he just got about 200 days in prison.  He killed more later, and still only got jail time.

Conversely, I had another vampire turn up in a migrant wave.  I identified him immediately, but he killed someone before I could isolate him, and he was hammered to death almost as soon as I convicted him.

(I also blamed two vampire kills on one of the goblins that was living in my fortress (from the siege that killed the fort before I reclaimed it), and he didn't get any punishment at all).

Just tried this, and is seems that dwarves will indeed go out of their way to stand in a burrow with No Job.
So it seems I was incorrect previously.

Just tried this, and is seems that dwarves will indeed go out of their way to stand in a burrow with No Job.

I've been using this exclusively for drowning chambers to kill loyalty test new immigrants. They obey the burrow.

Regarding how consistently dwarves obey burrows, if you set the CIV to an indoor burrow, yet have dwarves set to do jobs such as beekeeping or hauling trash (and set it so dwarves will gather refuse from outside), the second you open your drawbridge they'll rush outside of the burrow.
