You sure do love Carcass huh. I never really got that much into them for some reason.

If I had to choose a favorite band of mine, it'd probably have to be a three way toss up between Burzum, Drudkh, and unfortunately Branikald/Forest. From a black metal standpoint of course.

Have some metalstep.

Holy shit, I thought I recognized that. The guys voice at the beginning is Varg from Burzum. It's from a black metal documentary, lol.

Yeah, Carcass is my favorite band, and you seem to love black metal over everything else:P

I recently heard whole Periphery II: This Time It's Personal album and it was horrid experience, so generic and full of pop, now i totally hate djent. Totally, no one is going to convince me back to hear Periphery II again. Good that i can sit down and relax listening to Necroticism: Descanting the Insalubrious, pluggin' in Tools of The Trade EP afterwards to get rid of memory of horrid Periphery.

I'm not very deep into metal, personally. I try to stick to in flames and dethklok, though I do sometimes venture out.

Most of what I listen to kind of straddles the border between hard rock and metal. Like Kill switch engage and all that remains.

You've much learning to do my friend.  ;D

There are many possible paths one can take when venturing into the land of metal. I'm fairly biased, so I'd probably not be the best guide. I do think Opeth is a good band for everyone to start out with though. My dad even likes some of their songs  :D .Sometimes mellow, some good clean singing, and sometimes fucking awesome.

Vocals are an acquired taste though.

Vocals are an acquired taste though.

At the very least. Heck if I've ever been able to listen to something with indecipherable lyrics and not beaten my head against the nearest solid object.

Ill make you a quick guide how to get into more extreme metal genres.
For first, start out with something not growled, and clean singing involved, try industrial metal, metalcore etc.

For second, i see you listen to in flames and dethklok, thats good because there are some harsh vocals involved, if you want try yourself at more extreme genre, just keep going heavier, try to understand what is the point of growling, morbid lyrics etc.

For third, if you really feel like it, try something with harsher-than-normal growls if you really want to accept harsh vocals, try out some brutal death or if you really must, deathcore with pig squeals.

For fourth, this is point even some extreme metalheads cant accept.
Here, have some most extreme non-processed vocals. Have some Demilich

If you are not into metal, try it out, its really fun when you understand it, try guide above i wrote, but try thrash metal inbetween points one and two, shouted, but not growled vocals like Slayer is great point to get into harsh vocals, still not everyone has to listen to metal, and its just taste.
Most of time when listening to incredibly guttural vocals i just read the lyrics though, and i love guttural vocals, would take them any day over cleans.
Yes im crazy.

Nuclear Blast signed bands-

Dimmu Borgir
Eluveitie
Epica

And (depending on the song)-

Blind Guardian
Children Of Bodom
Cradle Of Filth
Exodus
Hammerfall
Meshuggah
Scar Symmetry
Sepultura
Testament
Threat Signal

As for bands that aren't signed by my fave label-

Kamelot
NIghtwish
Alice Cooper
Marilyn Manson
Black Sabbath
Scorpions
Fear Factory
Nine Inch Nails
Rammstein
Rob Zombie (got me into the genre)
Pagan's Mind
As I Lay Dying
Iced Earth
OTEP

All these bands are good in their own right. I couldn't remember ALL of the bands I liked. I'm more into instrumentals than anything, but I prefer that my bands actually make noises other than "GRRRRR!!!".

If you like Dubstep.. And metal. (Djent)

MIMK <- Two man band
ForTiorl <- Single man band
Vildjharta
Animals as Leaders

If you like a lot of classical instruments.
Agalloch
Karlahan
Whispered

And for some reason, I have not seen anyone post Dark Tranquillity.

If you like wintersun..
Try Nother, And Catamenia

And thees three bands are more modern sounding.. I guess

Structures <- Saw them in concert, Created bricks everywhere.
SubStructures  < Not even related to the above band, But just as intense.
One morning Left <- They are kinda far off to my tastes.. But fk some of their songs are decent.
The Bunny the Bear <- Mixture of light and heavy vocals
Pandamonium <- Win

More undecipherable epic stuff

Crytopsy
Berzerker

It's Vildhjarta (THALL)
And saying djent = dubstep + metal isn't quite right. A mash of tech and prog metal with added electronic sounds is what I see it as.
Now somebody will probably label/bash me as a djentkid, but it's the same with any genre - there are brilliant artists, there's cliche mediocrity and there's lots of shite.
Here's some (what I consider good) "djent" for anyone interested.
Red Seas Fire from the Bristol/Bath area, very recently played their last concert with their genius guitarist Adam "Nolly" Getgood (they'll still go on I assume), who has joined
Periphery - an American band led by guitarist Misha "Bulb" Mansoor, who popularized the word "djent". Their drummer Matt Halpern is pretty badass
The Safety Fire - another English band.
TesseracT - an awesome band, touring with
Animals As Leaders - Washington DC instrumental band. Really worth a listen even if you don't like "djent". The founder/frontman Tosin Abasi is a god amongst men. One of the few guitarists who actually make good use of 8 string guitars.

If all goes well, I'll be seeing Animals As Leaders and TesseracT live on 23.10 in London.

E: @DarkWolfXV: I love Periphery II: This Time It's Personal. :D
E2: I totally forgot Textures - A dutch band. Their 2008 album Silhouettes is my favourite, the older ones and the newer one aren't that good. Saw them live in a small venue in 2009, when they did the Silhouettes set with the vocalist who had done the album. Best live show I've been to. Here's another song

I'm trying to keep up on interesting and good metal released this year. Mostly using the Angry Metal Guy reviews as a base, as they tend to be in line with my own views and nicely eclectic in styles.

AMG's halfway point review, Steel Druhm's take, a mid-may review with youtube links to songs (for those of us without facebook for spotify.

My own metal or related albums this year so far, in chronological order;
That's all I've got for the year so far. There are more albums I've definitely excluded, others I just haven't gotten around to yet. Anyone got particularly glaring holes they need to point out so far?

God dammit i hate Periphery, its barley metal, and i really have bad memories from listening to the 2nd album, so much pop. The whole djent thing just sucks, yes, i just said that. Meshuggah has good moments but they are a pre-djent band. Djent is so predictable, and polymeters, polyrhythms, time signatures dont make your music better if its bad, and i sometimes get a feeling that djent tries to appeal to people outside of metal. I like something headbangable like Carcass or Napalm Death, and in terms of technicality, this is better done by technical death metal bands, like(In order of technicality) Necrophagist, Spawn of Possession and Origin.

Speaking of good 2012 albums, i really love "Monolith of Inhumanity" - Cattle Decapitation and "Reign Supreme" - Dying Fetus.

I still don't know what djent or dubstep is. Please don't explain though :)

edit: Hey, anyone here buy metal albums?

I've started a collection myself after years of pirating music.  :D

I own:
Branikald - Триумф воли
Branikald - Kveldulf
Forest - Like a Blaze Above the Ashes
Drudkh - Autumn Aurora
Windir - Valfar, Ein Windir
Karjalan Sissit - Miserere (non-metal)
and I just bought Tenhi - Saivo (non-metal)

Not much, but it's somewhat of a start.
