"I don't think that's going to be possible," said Eurika.

"Also, about your previous comment about making gunpowder for anyone: No-one's going to force you to make gunpowder right now, because it takes too long for gunpowder to be done in time for the end of this campaign. Not to mention the fact that I don't believe there are firearms in our armory."

She paused, before starting,

"The thing is, the current commander doesn't care about gunpowder. I do. And it is I who wants your skills. I have a long term plan, and it heavily concerns a theoretical weapon called the cannon. Would you join me?"

"Cannons are still considered a theoretical weapon here? I was present at the firing of the first cannon made back in Vasir." Mark paused for a moment. "Granted, it did backfire and kill the person who lit it, but the idea is sound."

Mark shook his head. "I don't mean to be rude, but I have no idea what kind of person you are; I'm not going to take part in the creation of a new type of firearm with someone I don't know that I can trust."

"Now, why would it not be possible for me to leave? What cause do you have to keep me here? Give me just one good reason why you would detain a random traveler."

"Of course they are theoretical, since no-one seems to be using it. I see a great use for cannon in the naval area. The ballista is the currently dominant weapon used at sea. Frankly, it's pathetic. Half of the time it just bounces off the hull, and the other half it misses the men it is supposed to hit. The cannon, on the other hand, punctures holes in the hull and can actually be used to sink a ship. It is simply perfect for a navy.

"As for reasons, I have a threefold authority. The fact is that I am supposed to detain everyone who comes, the fact that I have more armed people than you, and the fact that you were headed towards the city. That's actually twofold, in retrospect.

"You still haven't given me a reason. You've restated the obvious about how you can hold people prisoner, but you haven't said why you would even care to detain people passing by."

"Part of the reason that you bother to besiege a city is to stop people from going in. It would be in a sieger's interest to question anyone who would want to enter the city."

"Then question me and be done with it. I'd be heading away from the city you're attacking if you let me go, and think for a moment: if I was working for your enemy, do you really think I would be stupid enough to just walk down to this encampment?"

Time to go to the lord of mileth, these envoys are getting nowhere, and perhaps some direct talking might serve better

Go to the lord of mileth to ask for mercaeary work again

Time to go to the lord of mileth, these envoys are getting nowhere, and perhaps some direct talking might serve better

Go to the lord of mileth to ask for mercaeary work again

[5] The lord of Mileth welcomes you warmly, and offers you to take a seat.

"Welcome! So, I hear you're looking for mercenary work. I happen to have a job for you, but it's not exactly easy. How interested are you in getting paid for.. Erh... Dangerous work?"

After Lord William anwsers, Leandros took off to find this Terryn after retrieving his weapons.

[1] You get your weapons and go to find Terryn. However, you take a few wrong turns and... Well, to put it simply, you find yourself in a dark alley, completely lost.

Draft a personal guard regiment from the local populace.

[3] You recruit a personal guard regiment [-1d] [This action is only valid if you have enough money. Tell us in the OOC if that's not the case, please.]

Continue on to Veruna with the Merchant, remind him of the deal we made.

[3] The journey is uneventful. You decide to talk with the merchant on a sunny day, hoping he would be in a good mood.

"Yes? You wanted to tell me something?"

"Hrm... Debatable, but yes. Who knows. It could all be part of a plan, that since no-one who works for the enemy would walk up to an enemy encampment, no-one would ever suspect someone who did, in fact, do very that. Such subjunctive questions aren't ones to be touched upon lightly."
Eurika kept a light tone, and looked Mark in the eye the whole while.

"True. So I'm to be confined to this tent until the siege is over? Given how there are loyal soldiers everywhere and guards appointed to this particular part of the camp, would it be possible for you to tell them to keep me from doing anything suspicious and let me walk around? Bear in mind that, quite frankly, I'm a lot more likely to be amenable to working for you if you're willing to grant small concessions."

"Well, seeing that, as you say, I have no idea of the character of you, I don't know if I should just yet let you walk around. However, I have not reported this yet to Laythe - oh, she's the commander of the entire army - and I would think she has a lot on her plate just now. What would those small concessions be?"

"Small concessions like letting me walk around with guards following me instead of being confined to a tent, which was what I was referring to earlier, though you've just answered that request."

"Huh. Sounds reasonable. In the event that you knock out the guards and hightail it out of here, an address would be -"

Eurika tells Mark the address to William's manor.

"Turning up in person, or sending a letter should suffice. What was your name again? Full name."

She also calls over a low ranking soldier and or guard and asks him to keep a careful eye on Mark.

"Marcus Valerius."

Mark nods politely to the red shirt assigned to follow him around before setting off through the camp, looking for casually gathered soldiers who he can find out about Laythe from. On the way, he asks the guy following him. He does not, however, try to escape.

Dracius looked at the Lord, dressed in full battle armour, as per custom, and fully armed, also as per custom, sitting down Dracius said, "That would depend on how dangerous it is, but chances are it should be easily affordable for whatever you want me to do."
