That's great, but now catch Woodman in a fire trap.

I dropped him in a lake... Apparently the cage forms an all powerful forcefield that keeps him from steaming it off...
Which is a shame since I was planning on using him to power a Dwarf Nuclear reactor

Interesting. Several versions ago I had observed that creatures made of flame would heat their cages, turning water into steam and dwarf into smoke. Something might have been changed with the fire/heat damage rewrite.

I'm pretty sure at this point that 'cages' are actually the exteriors of pocket dimensions, which would also explain how the same cage can hold a rabbit and an adult dragon.

He can still power the reactor if you just release him from the cage, though. Dumping water on him shouldn't hurt him at all.
Of course he'll probably burn the cage ASAP, collapsing the pocket dimension inside.

...except not. I created a fire man in the water in the arena, he's just chilling there  :P A magma man on the other hand started steaming all the water away.

Apparently firemen aren't hot enough

It is said knowledge is like a foul-smelling herb. It must be cooked well and thoroughly with experience to make it palatable. A young scholar's knowledge is therefore not only worthless but disgusting. -- In Dwarf Fortress you have another paradigm. Gather as much of that smelly herb as you can and toss it at your enemy, fracturing his skull through the +capybara man leather cap+.

Secondary confirmation that a caged creature can boil/freeze water.

Cages confirmed for pokeballs.

Now find a situable opponent for your Fire Man.

Is the water flowing, with magma temperautre calculations only occur while the liquid is moving.  Secondly, do you have temperature turned on...?

Stasis fields.
The cornerstone of all Dwarven construction.

Certainly you could argue that DF is a lot like The Sims, only... you know... with more vomit and decapitation.
If you launch a wooden mine cart towards the ocean at a sufficient speed, you can have your entire dwarf sail away in an ark.
