I heard that they cannot fly once tamed, is this true?

Here is the wiki page: http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/Giant_eagle

I've found that the wiki is only right half of the time. And half of the time its right, its only half-right. So if anyone know this thing for certain, it would help. Newer versions might have changed things. Namely, Tarn's recent work with the pathing script.

Does anyone have a giant eagle fort?

With the new pathing, taming shouldn't matter, right?

They do indeed fly, but only when they need too, the Eagle I got flew over a wall to join his owner.

I've got a tame tiercel peregrine and the idiot never flies. Not even when he's being flailed at by a goblin. You're a bird, you don't need to limp and you're not getting any sympathy from me.

Tamed ravens stop flying as well. Silly sausages.

After playing with a Pony Fortress fort for a while, my experience with pathing is that flying creatures who are members of your fort -can- fly, but they will only fly to spots to which a valid non-flying path exists.

It's really annoying because I would get ponies stuck on roofs all the time (They don't need a valid path, for example, to dodge up there, but they do to get back down.)

I'd have a wall like ---P------------------------ and then I'd build a ramp at the far right end, and the pony would just hop down from the wall like there was no problem as soon as the ramp was finished.

Pathing is still pretty weird.

This pathing 'feature' only affects members of your fort - neutrals and hostiles fly wherever they damn well please.

My experience with birds is that their owners tend to end up atop walls...

Geese sometimes fly.
Lungfish too.
Especially lungfish.

Anything that ends up in combat with a dwarf with a hammer, basically.
