Interupted Traders Sticking Around

In my most recent fortress while attempting to make a well, I neglected to factor in water pressure, no big deal doors kept the whole of the river from flooding my fortress. What did happen though is that the dwarven merchants who were trading at the Depot at the time were flooded out. Now they've stuck around for a couple seasons (long enough for the elves to show up). Took all they're suff (d-b-c) and they didn't blink. I was wondering if anyone else has had this happen to them and if they eventually left or what? This is in version 34.03 with mayday and dfhack running.

TL;DR: Flooded merchants out of the depot and now they won't leave. Anyone else had this happen?

I think he's talking about a situation where the traders have stayed longer than it would normally take them to go crazy. I mean usually they go crazy after a month or two. But in this situation I have no idea what's causing it. I've had things like this too when traders were attacked by goblins and even though none died they just dropped all their stuff for good and just hung around on the map.

Correct, they clear paths to the edge of the map and it's been ~2-3 months since they were flooded out of the depot.
At the very least they make convenient buffers keeping kobold thieves away from my stocks. My main concern is the possibility of this blocking future dwarf caravans, as I have enough traps to catch them if they happened to go mad and 2 legendary squads behind that.

I also had traders refusing to leave. They were scared by kea woman and ceased trading, but sat in the depot (with six wagons) for almost two years before being slaughtered by goblins. Interestingly, while they were around no other traders showed up at all.

Hmm, create a 'natural' death for them i.e a cave-in or drowning... some people just dont know they've outstayed their welcome.

I've had a similar issue; they're Traders, but I don't think they were merchants. First off, they came in with waves of migrants. They just sort of mill about on the far edge of the map where they spawned in, occationally being chased off a bit in some direction. They aren't part of my fortress, they show up under the others category with the "Friendly" marker.

I though they were some kind of werebeast, but either this fortress never gets full moons or they aren't transforming.

I thought perhaps they were vampires, but they die far too easily and I've not had anyone go missing. The Traders never seem to eat or drink or anything.

I considered some kind of necromancer, but I've captured 3 so far and they've always been quick to go right for my corpse buffer I keep next to my bio-hazard pit.

Now, I just think these guys are bugged.

Yeah, I've been getting those as well, I believe they're bugged. Thankfully, pretty much anything hostile will kill them.

They are handy for getting ambushers to uncloak.

Yeah, I've been getting those as well, I believe they're bugged. Thankfully, pretty much anything hostile will kill them.
Sadly, for this at least, the most hostile thing that arrives at my fortress regularly are Kobold thieves or the one named Minotaur, who showed up before this happened.

try removing the trade depot.
Will try that when the current elves leave.

Huh maybe because they were still in the trade depot? Mine got washed a decent ways away.

More weirdness... Those elves just left and one of their merchants pathed through the caverns on the way out. Secret dwarf? XD

Edit: Removing the depot does cause the traders to depart. Now I have ALL of the stuff they left behind, found where I'm getting my capital offering from.  ;)

I've had a couple issues with traders this version. One issue is the series of traders who arrive with migrant waves - that's happening pretty much every wave on this fort, actually.

On top of that, I've had merchants start to leave a few times, and then just stop partway through my 3-wide entrance tunnel. At least one time, it looked like the human caravan had gotten caught on one side of a ramp while exiting, with the dwarven caravan caught on the other side of the ramp while coming in. I suspect that the wagons got caught on each other, or something.

I don't remember either of these happening in 0.31.xx, but then again, I don't remember being visited by wagons, either.

Switched to .05. they stuck around until I tore down the depot. Then a weremongoose came, lost no one but could have used the cannon fodder.
