Vampire Sponge, almost unkillable
« on: March 04, 2012, 11:26:40 pm »

So, after extensive arena mode testing, I have found the most powerful creature. The legendary vampire giant sponge. Due to the whole vampire aspect, he can and will kill. His giant sponge heritage allows him to never die. The handy vampire type also means he can move around... on land. There is a way to kill it though. You must encase it in stone by dumping it in lava and water, or you could kill it by freezing it. That's all I've seen. Does anyone have any other ideas? Mind you, 20 bronze colossi on land armed with a variety of weapons couldn't kill it.

Does it flow through grates and reassemble on the far side?   :P

This thing must be captured and weaponized, for the good of dwarves everywhere.

I can SEE the pit now, stained with the blood of enemies.

While probably formidable, this creature is a lab project, and will never be encountered in the wild.  Weaponization and destruction debates are purely academic and will have no bearing on any actual weaponization or destruction that might take place during a fortress's life.

not only that but giant sponges are immune to dragonfire.

Anyone makes the sponge men into a civ so we can have vampire sponge men ?

So gents, what controls the ability to become a vampire? I know that as a playable race, you can become it by drinking blood in Adventure mode, would a default giant sponge that is intelligent be able to become one if you controlled it? Also, can we make a transformation for our dwarves to turn them into one?

AFAIK Giant Sponge Zombies/Husks are just as strong and are possible to encounter in fortress mode. Vampire sponges aren't possible.

...The handy vampire type also means he can move around on land. ...
Tested and not true. It is still as immobile as any other giant sponge, unless you stand next to it or attack it, where it can then charge or dodge.

If you immerse a giant sponge in vampire blood laced water... Will it soak up all the vampire?

It must ingest the vampire blood, and since sponges don't eat it will not ingest.  It may get a coating, but getting coated in vampire blood has no effect aside from making you menace with spikes of awesome.
