Author Topic: Is it possible to assign a weapon to the fighter or striker skill?  (Read 2612 times)

Recently I've been attempting to mod in some weapons of my own, when I realized that it might be more convenient to separate the weapons into a different category.

So, the thought came to mind, is it possible?

Probably, though you'd have to make sure you had the skill token correct. In previous versions, weapons modded to use unusual skills were sometimes used to train skills that otherwise wouldn't be possible to. I'd be very surprised if the ability to set a weapon to use any single skill has changed.

Prior to the changes to the military interface you'd have to use an exploit involving turning the target weapon into a ranged weapon, using dummy ammo and a Dwarf-valid military skill as the ranged skill, then replace the main skill with the desired skill. As of .31 I don't think this should be necessary any more, and you should just be able to use any valid skill token, but I haven't tested it.

Ninja'd, posting anyway.

I think you could make a weapon that uses record-keeping for its skill. Fighter won't be a problem.

Only combat skills work for weapons. Labor or Social skills dont.

You can make a big crossbow using the siege operator skill, but you cant make a giant plastic dildo for your comedian.

Hm.. Wiki lists military tactics twice, one time in a military skills along with sneaking. So is this possible:
Military Commander strikes goblin general in the head with his strategical genius jamming the scull and tearing the brain?

Siege operator is an engineering skill.

Definitely possible. I nicked a bunch of silly stuff from the S.L.A.D.E communal modding pack, and now have a dwarven wrestler running around with a *steel powerfist* that he routinely knocks skulls through brains with, and is a legendary striker, while remaining a novice wrestler.

Right, siege operate wouldnt work. Bad example.

The power fist looks suspiciously like a whip though. Lightsaber powerfist ?

To be honest, I actually haven't spent enough time with weapon raws to notice... I've never seen it sever limbs before, if that's what you mean. It does do a number on goblin ambushers though, so maybe that is the case. I got it from a communal modding project, so balancing may be somewhat screwy here, but it seemed appropriate to the thread, and sharing is caring, right?
