Conventional rockets are maybe boring, but they're cheap and effective.  ::)

War must be, while we defend our lives against a destroyer who would devour all; but I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend.

Ah, yes. You remember now. The Bright Dove. Pride of humanity. All humanity's hopes and dreams are on the shoulders of this magnificent dreadnought. And resting upon yours.
Any things to do in the half hour before flight?

Fine men and women, today we venture into the inky blackness that is space. And we shall chart it, map it and look damn stylish while we do it".
Fine words. They woop and cheer.
5 minutes till takeoff.

There's not much to do in five minutes. Just sit in our command chair and wait for launch.

Looks at the instruments and conclude that everything is perfect and nothing can and will go wrong.

You make your way to the bridge. On the way various ensigns salute you. After walking through the metal corridors you reach the bridge. After looking at the instruments, you determine everything is ok.
Then the countdown starts. Three, two, one.
Then, you are moving so fast into the sky that your eyes water. Eventually, you reach space. It is incredibly amazing, in a ship like this.
Where do you first go?
