I've gotten a world turn from an Age of Death to a (second) Age of Fairy Tales.

Yes, and that confirms the idea of an age of death having civ-able creatures still around.  Possibly the civ-able creatures were something like bandits, who moved into the abandoned cities and declared themselves kings after everyone else had died?

I would love to play in an Age of Death/Emptiness - its just so cool, surviving after the end...

Here's the world gen parameters:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It goes into the Age of death around year 509 and leaves it around year 525 (world gen stops at 550). There were people in the hamlets when I went adventuring, but the only city was mostly abandoned buildings (and VERY laggy).

Huh, I guess Toady retooled the whole Age of Death/Emptiness details since the original 40d experiments.

That's both cool and a little disappointing. The whole "Chosen Dwarves of Armok rebuilding civilization from scratch" was always a neat embark scenario angle. Ah well, maybe we'll get it back way down the line when Toady implements specific embark scenarios.

I generated an age of death in year 250 a few days ago. Had a mid sized elf civ, a human civ basically down to 1 city, and was playable in fortress (though dwarf civs showed all cities sacked).
